The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently welcomed delegations from two leading European institutions, further expanding strategic partnerships on a global scale.

On September 13, HKUST Vice President Prof. WANG Yang met with Prof. Ir. Daan VAN EIJK, Chair Professor in Industrial Design at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) from the Netherlands. This meeting followed an official engagement in The Netherlands this past May. Prof. Van Eijk then engaged in a productive meeting with Prof. Rob SCHARFF from HKUST’s Division of Integrative Systems & Design, Prof. Benjamin STEUER from the Division of Environment & Sustainability and Ms. Yvonne LI, Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs. The group explored opportunities to expand joint academic programs, enhance student mobility between both institutions, and collaborate on joint research projects in sustainability, HealthTech and WaterTechnology for climate resilience purposes.

The following week, HKUST Associate Vice President for Research and Development (Research) Prof. CHAN Che Ting, Prof. SHAO Minhua, Director of HKUST Energy Institute, and Ms. Yvonne LI, Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs engaged in a fruitful exchange with Prof. Dariusz MIKIELEWICZ, Vice-Rector for Research of Gdańsk University of Technology from Poland. Discussions focused on advanced energy technology research projects and the current practices in Europe. During his visit, Prof. Mikielewicz also toured the HKUST Energy Institute to learn about the university’s latest research in lithium batteries and energy storage technologies.

As a leading international university, HKUST remains committed to strengthening collaborations with strategic partners worldwide and promoting knowledge transfer on advanced research innovations.
