HKUST Welcomes Consul General of Switzerland in Hong Kong to Campus
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed Consul General of Switzerland in Hong Kong Mr. Daniel FREIHOFER, and his delegation to campus on January 9, for an in-depth exchange on education, research, and innovation.
President Prof. Nancy IP and Associate Provost (Institutional Data and Research) Dr. Alison LLOYD hosted the Swiss delegation, highlighting the University’s longstanding partnerships with the World Economic Forum and Swiss institutions in areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and student mobility.
Discussions also reflected on HKUST leadership’s recent delegation to Switzerland, which further strengthened ties with academic and research partners. The University’s expanding footprint in Chinese Mainland — including the HKUST Guangzhou campus and the recently established Shanghai Center — was presented as a platform for new opportunities to deepen collaboration with Swiss institutions and corporates.
The delegation was also invited for a tour to the State Key Laboratory of Displays and Opto-Electronics, led by Prof. Kristiaan NEYTS, Director of the Laboratory. The delegation was introduced to HKUST’s cutting-edge research in display technology, underscoring its role as a leader in technological innovation.
With a shared vision of connecting two dynamic innovation ecosystems, both sides expressed enthusiasm for fostering closer ties and advancing collaborative initiatives in the years ahead.
