HKUST and AstraZeneca Hong Kong Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Life Sciences and Healthcare Innovation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and AstraZeneca Hong Kong (AstraZeneca) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build on their long-standing partnership, aiming to accelerate research and development (R&D) and drive innovation in the city’s life sciences ecosystem. The signing ceremony was held at the HKUST Unicorn Day 2025, an occasion where entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders come together for technological knowledge exchange and collaboration. Witnessed by President of HKUST and the Morningside Professor of Life Science, Prof. Nancy Ip and General Manager of AstraZeneca Hong Kong and Macau Ms. Shan Wu, the MoU was officially signed by Vice-President for Research and Development at HKUST, Prof. Tim Cheng and Head of Medical Affairs, BioPharmaceuticals & Rare Disease of AstraZeneca Hong Kong Mr. Tin Hung Wong.

HKUST and University of Bristol Join Forces for Global Research Impact
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed Prof. Evelyn WELCH, Vice-Chancellor and President, and Michael BENSON, Director of Global Partnerships at the University of Bristol, on May 20 to deepen research ties and spark new collaboration. During the visit, HKUST Provost Prof. GUO Yike and HKUST (Guangzhou) Vice-President and Dean of HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School Prof. Charles NG hosted the Bristol delegation. This visit marked a significant milestone with the signing of two agreements - a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the launch of a joint HKUST-Bristol Global Knowledge Network(GKN) research seed grant initiative. The joint research initiative aims to foster global academic collaboration between researchers at the two universities and maximize research impact.

This agreement strengthens joint efforts to address global sustainability challenges, which include the Anita Conti Sustainable Innovation Fellowship, an initiative designed to foster the development of the next generation of researchers, innovators, and environmentalists, equipping them to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change and its global impacts.

Pioneering Climate Resilience and Sustainability: HKUST Launches Landmark UNESCO-Backed Initiative
The global transdisciplinary "research-to-operation" (R2O) initiative, “Seamless Prediction and Services for Sustainable Natural and Built Environments” (SEPRESS), led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as part of its International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD). Over the next decade, HKUST’s SEPRESS will spearhead efforts to collaborate with global partners in transforming scientific advancements into tailored solutions that enhance climate resilience and sustainability worldwide, with a particular focus on Least Developed Countries. SEPRESS will achieve this by translating progress in weather-to-climate prediction research into scalable solutions and fostering global partnerships to deliver actionable outcomes.

HKUST Leads Tripartite Alliance with KPMG and Griffith University to Launch Asia's First Master Program Concentration
Addressing the global financial sector’s surging demand for expertise in financial crimes and forensic accounting, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has partnered with KPMG and Griffith University to introduce Asia’s first Master of Science in Accounting (MSAC) program concentration dedicated these critical fields. According to the World Economic Forum, the global cost of financial crimes and money laundering is approximately US$1.45 trillion annually. This new concentration within HKUST’s MSAC program will significantly strengthen Hong Kong's talent pipeline to prevent and combat financial crimes, while contributing to a more secure and resilient financial system.

HKUST and Shanghai SSCI Sign Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement
Recently, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd. (Shanghai SSCI) held a signing ceremony for a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement to explore comprehensive collaboration in areas such as fund cooperation, technology transfer, and talent cultivation. At the signing ceremony, Dr. Timothy SZE, Director of the Office of Mainland Affairs at HKUST, and Ms. LU Wen, Party Committee Member and Vice President of Shanghai SSCI, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective parties. Prof. GUO Yike, HKUST’s Provost, and Dr. DAI Minmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd., attended the event and witnessed the signing.

HKUST and GDABR Sign MoU for Collaborative Development of Construction Technologies
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Building Research Group Co., Ltd. (GDABR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 3, 2025, to jointly develop and transfer new technologies to solve problems facing the construction industry, and to gradually develop a partnership for the long term. The signing ceremony was held at HKUST’s School of Engineering. The GDABR delegation was greeted with a warm welcome from Prof. WANG Yu-Hsing, HKUST’s Acting Dean of Engineering. Before the signing ceremony, the delegation had a tour of the Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory and Structures Laboratory, as well as the Geotechnical Centrifuge Facility and Aerodynamics and Acoustics Facility at HKUST.

HKUST Receives Over HK$10 Million Donation to Launch Sinovac Fellowship Program  
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a generous donation of US$1.5 million (approximately HK$11.7 million) from Sinovac Foundation. The funding will be used to establish the “Sinovac Fellowship Program” to nurture talents in life sciences through supporting promising faculty scholars in enhancing their research achievements, thereby driving the advancement of medical technology. A donation ceremony was held on HKUST campus yesterday, attended by distinguished guests including Mr. YIN Weidong, Chairman, President and CEO of Sinovac Holding Group Co., Ltd. and Founder of Sinovac Foundation, Ms. WANG Nan, Chief Financial Officer of Sinovac  Holding Group Co., Ltd., Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President, Prof. TAM Kar-Yan, Vice-President for Administration and Business and Acting Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, and Prof. LO Yuk-Lam, Strategic Advisor to the HKUST President.
