HKUST Explores Collaboration with UN China to Drive Global Sustainability Goals
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) forges new paths in sustainability and artificial intelligence through strategic engagement with the United Nations in China (UN China). President Prof. Nancy IP warmly welcomed Siddharth CHATTERJEE, United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in China; Prof. Poman LO, Founder of the Institute of Sustainable Technology and HKUST Council Member; and Wayne LI, Managing Director of Institute of Sustainability and Technology to campus on May 28 to explore cutting-edge collaborations in climate resilience, AI, and sustainable development.
During the meeting, President IP highlighted HKUST’s mission to pioneer technology-driven solutions for pressing global issues. Faculty representatives Prof. Jimmy FUNG, Associate Provost (Teaching & Learning), Prof. Alexis LAU, Head of Division of Environment and Sustainability, and Prof. Fei CHEN, Associate Head of Division of Environment and Sustainability presented HKUST’s joint efforts with the UN on climate change, air quality, and global health. Prof. Mengqian LU, Associate Professor from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering showcased her pioneering initiative recently endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Following the meeting, HKUST Provost GUO Yike shared the latest advancements from the Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Center (HKGAI), including HKGAI V1, a cutting-edge large language model developed for the HKSAR government and local community.
