HKUST Strengthens Strategic Partnerships with Cornell University to Drive Interdisciplinary Innovation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) delegation, led by Vice-President for Research and Development Prof. Tim CHENG, embarked on a strategic visit to Cornell University on July 14 to advance collaboration in interdisciplinary research and education.
Joining Prof. Cheng were Prof. Bert SHI, Special Advisor to the Vice-President for Research and Development and Director of Center for Aging Science, and Prof. Guojun BU, Head of Division of Life Science. The delegation visited three Cornell campuses including the main campus in Ithaca, Cornell Tech and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. The delegation engaged in fruitful discussions with Cornell leadership team, including Provost Kavita BALA, Interim Vice Provost for Research, Prof. Gary KORETZKY and colleagues at College of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences. In New York City, the HKUST group met with senior executives from Cornell Tech and Weill Cornell Medicine to explore partnerships on entrepreneurship and medical education.
With a shared commitment to addressing global challenges such as sustainability, aging and public health, HKUST and Cornell University have been offering joint research seed grants to faculty. This visit provided an opportunity to further strengthen the partnership and explore new opportunities in interdisciplinary research and education. The recent visit reaffirmed a strong dedication to strengthening this partnership and advancing future innovation.
