HKUST Showcases Thought Leadership at World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos 2025
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) contributed to global conversations at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2025, also known as Summer Davos, held in Tianjin, China, from June 24-26, 2025. This 16th Annual Meeting, themed "Entrepreneurship for a New Era", welcomed a record-breaking attendance of approximately 1,800 leaders from government, business, academia, as well as innovators and representatives from international organizations, media, and civil society. HKUST Associate Vice President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer) Dr. KIM Shin Cheul; Prof. Alex HE, Acting Director of HKUST Institute for Public Policy; and Prof. SU Hui, Chair Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Global STEM Professor, were invited to attend the event.
Dr. Kim addressed the Global University Leaders Forum 2025 Dialogue Series on “Partnerships to Secure the Future of Research and Innovation". He emphasized the importance of knowledge transfer and the need for strong collaboration among academia, industry, and government, as well as the role of systemic entrepreneurship development in driving meaningful societal change. Dr. Kim's insights highlight the crucial role universities must play in shaping a sustainable, innovation-driven future.
Prof. He, recently appointed as the Principal Investigator leading a regional research consortium on digital health innovation under the World Health Organization (WHO), shared his insights at the Hub Session themed "Investing in Our Social Fabric." He addressed the pressing challenges posed by population aging, emphasizing that these challenges can be reframed as powerful drivers for inclusive growth. He underscored the critical need for forward-thinking policies and robust public-private partnerships to effectively respond to the evolving demands of health and social care systems.
As the sole university from Hong Kong to be a member of the Global University Leaders Forum (GULF) since 2013, HKUST takes pride in sharing the stage with global changemakers at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2025.
