The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) successfully hosted the Nobel Symposium, which engaged over 450 students, faculty members, and public guests. Held as part of the celebrations for HKUST's 35th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of IAS, this academic event, themed "Horizons Unbound: Exploring the Ultimate Frontiers of Science," showcased insights from some of the most influential scientific minds globally.Through inspiring discussions, the speakers examined science's transformative power in shaping humanity's future. HKUST Hosts Special Screening and Expert Session of the Documentary "Shen Zhou 13"
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a special screening of the documentary “Shen Zhou 13” on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Tsang Shiu Tim Art Hall on campus. The event attracted nearly 200 HKUST faculty, students, alumni, and members of the wider community to explore Hong Kong's role and opportunities in space science, advanced technology, and the emerging space economy. Attendees gained insights into China's manned space missions and experienced an immersive portrayal of life in space.“Shen Zhou 13” is China's first 8K ultra-high-definition documentary filmed entirely in space. Captured by Shenzhou-13 astronauts ZHAI Zhigang, WANG Yaping, and YE Guangfu using domestically developed 8K cameras aboard the China Space Station, the film documents their six-month mission, offering viewers an authentic glimpse into the daily lives and emotional journeys of astronauts in outer space.

“STEAM Day@HKUST” Inspires Thousands of Primary and Secondary School Students to Explore Science and Technology
“STEAM Day@HKUST”, organized by the Center for Global and Community Engagement under the School of Engineering of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), is taking place from January 22 to 24, 2026, on campus. The opening ceremony held today marked the launch of 130 activities and programs designed to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) among more than 5,000 participants throughout the three-day event.Now in its third edition, this event has grown to be the University’s largest popular science initiative. It provides an experiential learning platform for primary and secondary school students to explore STEAM through interactive and hands-on experiences, in alignment with the primary school curriculum reform in the 2025-26 academic year.

This landmark gathering will bring together Nobel Laureates across Physiology or Medicine, Economic Sciences, Chemistry and Physics for a day of dialogue and inspiration.As part of the University's 35th anniversary celebrations, this event themed “Visionaries in Dialogue" offers a unique platform for students, faculty, alumni, researchers, and the public to engage directly with some of the world’s most influential scientific minds.The centerpiece of the event will be a fireside chat with the Nobel laureates. This session aims to illuminate the human stories, intellectual perseverance, and creative spirit behind transformative discoveries, providing invaluable insights for the next generation of innovators.

HKUST Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony to Celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held a flag-raising ceremony on campus this morning to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.The University was honored to have Ms. ZHOU Qian, Counselor of the Department of Treaty and Law at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR, preside over the ceremony. She was joined by Dr. John CHAN, HKUST Pro-Chancellor; Dr. the Hon. Andrew LIAO Cheung-Sing, HKUST Court Chairman; and Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President. The event was attended by over 400 members of the HKUST community and generated more than 10,000 online views via live stream.

HKUST, CAS-TECSU, and EDB Hold Award Presentation Ceremony for Hong Kong Secondary Student Space Station Popular Science Payload and Science Experiment Design Challenge
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Education Bureau (EDB), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization (CAS-TECSU) jointly organized the Hong Kong Secondary Student Space Station Popular Science Payload and Science Experiment Design Challenge. An award ceremony was held at HKUST on September 21 to commend the outstanding student teams for their excellent designs and recognize their achievements in space science.
