HKUST Holds Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2026 Introduces Individualized Interdisciplinary Program and Unveils Enhanced ENGG+AI Flagship Pathway with Boosted Scholarships
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) successfully hosted its annual Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions today, attracting more than 55,000 secondary school students, parents, and educators to experience the University’s innovative education, cutting-edge research achievements, and vibrant campus life. Ahead of the 2027/2028 academic year, HKUST highlighted its interdisciplinary offerings. Notably, this includes the standalone JUPAS admission (JS5712) for the BSc in Individualized Interdisciplinary Major under the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies, which empowers students to design custom learning paths tailored to their ambitions.
A major highlight of this year’s event was the "JUPAS Admissions Talk – Dialogue with HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP," which drew an enthusiastic crowd of prospective students and parents. Prof. Nancy IP, President of HKUST, alongside HKUST alumni and local secondary school students, engaged in an inspiring exchange on academic journeys, research aspirations, and life planning. Reflecting on her journey from a scientist to a university leader, President Ip shared valuable lessons on building resilience in the face of setbacks and finding balance between career and personal life. She emphasized how research and entrepreneurship drive innovation to transform ideas into real-world impact. President Ip also outlined HKUST’s strategic vision and the diverse interdisciplinary and global opportunities available to future students.
To empower students on their pathway to higher education, HKUST launched the "Your UNI-Type" Personality Test. The interactive test helps students explore their traits, interests, and potential, offering personalized campus-life recommendations—including suitable extracurricular activities, student societies, and leisure spots on campus. Complementing the test, HKUST introduced a series of limited-edition souvenirs, including six personality-type figures, brand-new charm pendants of HKUST buddies Sparkle and Thrivy, five collectible campus-view cards, and custom badges. Participants who completed the test and fulfilled designated campus quests successfully redeemed these special mementos to commemorate their visit.
Highlighting HKUST’s distinct entrepreneurial DNA, the event featured showcase booths by HKUST-incubated start-ups, where founders exchanged ideas with visitors. Giving attendees a firsthand look at HKUST’s dynamic student life, various student societies delivered vibrant musical performances and kendo demonstrations. Throughout the day, HKUST’s Schools and Academy hosted a comprehensive lineup of admissions talks, program consultations, laboratory tours, interactive workshops, and student sharing sessions. Prospective students interested in Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science, or Interdisciplinary Studies gained deep insights into HKUST’s cutting-edge developments and innovative teaching approaches. In addition, an immersive interactive game guided participants across the campus to discover hidden treasures and secret spots.
Individualized Interdisciplinary Major Empowers Custom Learning Journeys
For the 2027/2028 academic year, the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies will introduce program-based admission for its "BSc in Individualized Interdisciplinary Major" under a standalone JUPAS code (JS5712). Breaking through traditional academic boundaries, the program enables students to step beyond conventional curriculum limits and design a tailored learning journey aligned with their personal interests and career aspirations. Specially designed for forward-looking, innovative, and goal-driven students, the program grants high autonomy to integrate relevant courses across HKUST’s various Schools, as well as partner institutions locally and abroad, to build a unique interdisciplinary major. Students can explore emerging and non-traditional fields in depth, guided by a supervisory committee of faculty members and field experts to ensure the curriculum combines academic rigour with professional standards and practical value for a solid foundation for future career development.
ENGG+AI Upgraded to Flagship Program with Enhanced Support for Top Students
To meet the skyrocketing global demand for technology leaders, the HKUST School of Engineering (SENG) has upgraded its "Engineering with Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence (ENGG+AI)" into a flagship program. Admitting 28 top-performing local students annually, the program provides comprehensive support including an Elite Scholarship of up to HK$100,000*, Guaranteed Major Department Selection, overseas exchange opportunities, six-month Co-op programs, and Accelerated Academic Pathways (BEng+MSc/PhD).
