HKUST and the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center Sign Memorandum of Understanding
On March 13, 2026, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center (NMEFC) held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony and inaugural collaborative exchange meeting at the Sir Sze-yuen Chung Council Chamber, HKUST. The Otto Poon Center for Climate Resilience and Sustainability (CCRS) at HKUST served as the lead unit on behalf of the University in signing the MoU and will be responsible for the execution and advancement of subsequent collaboration. Ms. KANG Jian, Director of NMEFC, and Prof. LU Mengqian, Director of CCRS at HKUST, signed the memorandum on behalf of their respective organizations, with Dr. Ir Otto POON, Chairman of the Board of Analogue Holdings and Founder of the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation, Mr. LI Zhiqiang, Head of the Operational Science and Technology Division of NMEFC, and Prof.

HKUST Actively Promotes "Study in Hong Kong" Brand and Supports Development of an International Education Hub
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), together with the other seven universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC), co-hosted the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026 Conference and Exhibition (February 23-27). Through a variety of international education and collaboration activities, the University fully supported the concurrent "Study in Hong Kong" Week, echoing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's initiative to strengthen the "Study in Hong Kong" brand and to foster Hong Kong's development as a global education hub and an international center for high-caliber talent. The event showcased the unity and collaborative spirit of Hong Kong's higher education sector, further solidifying in advancing Hong Kong's position among the world's top education hub by deepening international engagement through academic excellence and strategic partnerships.

HKUST Successfully Hosted the Final Presentation and Award Ceremony for the 2026 GenAI Hackathon on Putonghua Web Tools
The final presentation and award ceremony of the 2026 GenAI Hackathon: Competition on a Putonghua Web Tool, co‑hosted by the Center for Language Education (CLE) and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of the HKUST, successfully took place on March 9, 2026.We were joined by our Guests of Honor, including Dean of SHSS Prof. LI Ping, Director of CLE Prof. Melinda Whong, and Director of CEI Dr. Sean McMinn. We were also delighted to welcome Ms. HOU Ming, Chief Managing Director the Hong Kong Language Studies Center (HKLSC), together with faculty and students from various departments of the University.

HKUST Launches Blood Donation Campaign
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently held the kick-off ceremony for the "35 for Life" campaign, marking the launch of this meaningful year-long blood donation campaign. In partnership with the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, the University will organize 35 blood drives across its Clear Water Bay and Guangzhou campuses. The first three-day blood drive (March 5 to 7) attracted over 300 faculty, students, and alumni from both campuses.As one of HKUST's 35th-anniversary celebration initiatives, this campaign brings together the compassion of the University community and channels it into meaningful support for the public good. It also reflects HKUST's commitment to advancing healthcare innovation as the University prepares for the establishment of its new medical school.

HKUST Professor Bestowed with France’s “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite”
Prof. Veronique LAFON-VINAIS, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at HKUST Business School, was bestowed the rank of “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite” on Mar 3 at the Residence of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to sustainable finance education.The honor was presented by Mrs. Christile DRULHE, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, on March 3. The award recognizes Prof. Lafon-Vinais’ role in advancing sustainability in finance and in strengthening collaboration between France and Hong Kong.Reflecting on the recognition, Prof. Lafon-Vinais said the award also acknowledged the collective efforts of colleagues who have worked over the past decades to advance sustainable development and the growth of sustainable and green finance. She added that she was proud of the many interdisciplinary achievements made at HKUST.
