On 25 January 2013 in Davos, Switzerland, University of Oxford Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Hamilton and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) President Professor Tony Chan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for International Collaboration. Under this collaboration, both sides agree to jointly establish the Oxford-HKUST Leadership and Public Policy Series, which aims to provide executive education short courses to public sector officials from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and eventually Asia.
This Oxford-HKUST Leadership and Public Policy Series will consist of a number of short courses of various durations, aimed initially at senior members of the public sector, including senior civil servants and also officials from government, statutory, or related bodies and NGOs, within Hong Kong. The two parties are committed to widening this relationship to both Mainland China and Asia. Courses will be conducted in Hong Kong at HKUST and/or at Oxford University with field visits to the UK and elsewhere, as appropriate.
"We are delighted to be working with HKUST to provide executive education to senior public sector officials on subjects ranging from economics to sustainability, urban planning, technology policy, or any other global issue which will benefit the governance and leadership abilities of those who serve the public in this part of the world," said Vice-Chancellor Andrew Hamilton. "HKUST is a dynamic and ideal partner for Oxford to bring its expertise and experience in leadership training in a robust manner to Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Asia".
President Tony Chan echoed these sentiments: "Oxford has had a long history of providing leadership training for those who dedicate themselves to serving the public. HKUST has always felt that this type of executive education is more needed than ever in Hong Kong and Mainland China, as senior members of the public sector grapple with issues that can use the collective analytical ability and intellectual capital of two strong tertiary institutions such as HKUST and Oxford. To be able to work together with Oxford is an outstanding opportunity for HKUST and can benefit greatly those from Hong Kong and Mainland - and eventually from Asia - who will attend the offerings of the Oxford-HKUST Leadership and Public Policy Series."
This co-branded series will be launched later in 2013.
