Mathematics is the backbone of science, the International Mathematical Olympiad not only enhances students and the society's interest in mathematics, innovative ideas and desire for knowledge, but also boosts Hong Kong's status as an international city. As a professional mathematician, I am particularly pleased that Hong Kong has succeeded in the bid to host this international event and HKUST is happy to be the official host. I hope our students and faculty members will seize this great opportunity to interact with our talented young guests, and make them feel at home during their stay on our campus.
