The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) President Prof. Nancy IP attended the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Annual Presidents’ Meeting at the University of Auckland from June 24-26. The three-day meeting gathered university leaders from APRU’s 61 member institutions to explore and exchange insights to tackle climate change challenges rippling through the Pacific Rim.
Prof. Ip participated in an insightful panel discussion, exchanging perspectives with other panelists on innovative and transdisciplinary research to address pressing climate change issues. Throughout the discussions, Prof. Ip emphasized HKUST’s commitment to collaborating with universities worldwide to share best practices, innovations, and strategies to achieve sustainability and net-zero carbon emissions.
Prof. Irene LO, Chair Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and mentor of the APRU Asia Pacific Women in Leadership (APWiL) Program, joined the inaugural summit the day before the Annual Presidents’ Meeting. The Summit gathered over 100 participants and alumni of the APWiL Mentoring Program, as well as female leaders of APRU member institutions, providing a platform to discuss gender equity and diversity in the Pacific Rim region.
Through dedicated collaboration within APRU and beyond, HKUST aims to maximize the network’s collective potential to address shared global challenges. Events like the Annual Presidents’ Meeting provide invaluable opportunities to align our efforts and strengthen partnerships for greater impact.
