The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed a delegation from the German Research Foundation (DFG), led by Dr. Annette SCHMIDTMANN, Head of the Department of Scientific Affairs, to the campus on April 30.

As the central self-governing research funding organization which promotes and provides financial support for research at higher education and public research institutions in Germany, the delegation discussed with HKUST Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Research) Prof. CHAN Che Ting and the German faculty members Prof. Berthold JÄCK and Prof. Stefan NAGL, as well as Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs Ms. Yvonne LI, about potential collaboration in establishing joint research projects between its German members and HKUST.

The delegation then toured HKUST's Laboratory for Quantum Matter and Microscopy and the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies to learn about the advanced facilities in HKUST and exchange ideas about research innovation with the research teams.

This engaging visit established connections between leading research institutions in Germany and HKUST. HKUST looks forward to pursuing impactful partnerships with DFG to drive research and innovation.
