Bridging East and West on Two Strings: Erhu Master GUO Gan's International Concert

On April 26, Erhu Master GUO Gan presented the Guo Gan and His Friends International Concert, a world-class musical feast featuring an ensemble of nine renowned musicians from France, Belgium, Mongolia, Switzerland, and Tunisia.

While honoring the roots of Chinese heritage, Guo Gan bridged East and West, and tradition and modernity, as his erhu conversed seamlessly with an array of instruments, including the piano, violin, guitar, bass, bandoneon (button concertina), saz (long-necked lute), and morin khuur (horse-head fiddle).

In celebration of HKUST’s 35th Anniversary, the HKUST Talent Quest transformed the campus into a dazzling arena of talent expression. More than a competition, it was a unifying platform for our vibrant community, drawing enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

The journey began with over 70 show-stopping auditions in the first and second rounds. This initial batch of entrants was whittled down to 12 finalists who displayed an extraordinary range of talent at the Grand Finale held at Shaw Auditorium on May 6.

The blood donation drive kicked off at a ceremony titled “35 for Life: Every Drop Counts, Every Life Matters” on March 5 at the University’s Clear Water Bay campus.
