These recent milestones reflect the HKUST research brand: a commitment to interdisciplinary convergence and strategic industry collaboration. By integrating engineering, technology, and medical sciences, our researchers are translating innovations into tangible solutions for global health and scientific efficiency.
In the field of Engineering, a HKUST research team led by Prof. YANG Jinglei and Prof. DUAN Molong has developed a modeling and optimization framework for modularized autonomous experimentation (MAE) platforms for new materials. This initiative helps researchers identify optimal equipment setups before construction to save time and costs.
Researchers in the sphere of Chemical and Biological Engineering, led by Prof. HSING I-Ming, have joined hands with researchers from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to create "TEMPO"—an innovative "one-pot" testing platform. he platform has already demonstrated applications in the detection of a range of viral infections, including influenza, COVID-19, and HIV, while also opening new possibilities for the rapid screening of hereditary diseases. The breakthrough enables single-step, highly sensitive nucleic acid testing to streamline future infectious disease surveillance and genetic screening.
HKUST has received a generous donation from NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited (NetDragon) to establish the “NetDragon Professorship in Medical Technology”. Integrating HKUST’s strengths in engineering and medicine, the professorship will be conferred upon an outstanding scholar from School of Engineering to advance healthcare and public health research.
