Amid the premier commercial and office buildings of the towering financial core, a new intellectual force has taken root. HKUST's School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) has significantly expanded its footprint into the heart of Hong Kong’s Central Business District with the launch of its brand-new Business School Central (BSC).
Located above MTR Admiralty Station, the 30,000-square-foot facility represents a major milestone in the School’s continuing expansion and engagement with Hong Kong’s business community, and offers a vibrant environment for high-impact educational collaboration. The extensive range of facilities is tailored for postgraduate programs, executive education, corporate collaboration, and alumni engagement.
At the media gathering on July 7, Prof. Frederik ANSEEL, Dean of the HKUST Business School, outlined a strategic vision centered on three core pillars—China, AI technology, and global business—for advancing to the forefront of global transformation.
Anchoring the School’s role in connecting talent, capital, and ideas across borders, he highlighted Hong Kong’s unique position at the crossroads of East and West, and the city’s enduring role as a bridge between China and the international markets.
“In the next decade, Hong Kong will increasingly serve as a gateway between China’s rapidly growing economy and global markets,” emphasized Prof. Anseel, who assumed leadership of the School in February this year. “We have a role to play in training and educating the next generation of executives and managers, both Chinese and international.”
The second pillar focuses on technological empowerment. “AI is going to be an engine of economic growth,” he said. To embrace this AI-driven era, he emphasized the School’s commitment to embedding AI deeply within business education. Leveraging HKUST’s unique strengths as a technology-oriented university, he believes that the Business School holds a natural advantage in a future where technology meets business.
Prof. Anseel added that the School has integrated AI into its curriculum to nurture globally minded leaders with a distinct technological edge. A key example is the pioneering “Major + AI” program, which allows students to extend their majors with tailored AI applications through a cross-disciplinary approach. The program reflects the University’s broader commitment to integrating technological innovation into education and nurturing globally minded leaders with a distinctive competitive edge.
“The BSC is intentionally designed to drive the future growth of our School and attract wider talent to HKUST’s programs,” said Mr. Chris TSANG, Assistant Dean (Administration) of the HKUST Business School. He pointed to its agile, state-of-the-art infrastructure as a vital, dynamic platform that extends far beyond lecturing.
The facility features four highly versatile classrooms with a total capacity of 280 seats, including a large venue that can be easily reconfigured to accommodate up to 180 attendees, as well as 12 breakout rooms and conference rooms with advanced equipment.
Mr. Chris Tsang also mentioned that BSC has been rolled out in phases since May 2026 and has already conducted classes here for taught postgraduate and executive education programs. It offers unparalleled convenience for students and working professionals.
“By focusing on collaborative learning through these diverse facilities, we can now more effectively reach out to our key stakeholders and community, bringing together our students, alumni, and industry partners through a broader spectrum of activities, from seminars to networking events,” he stated.
A signature feature is the Open Learning Hub, a fluid, relaxed space for discussion designed to spark creative inspiration and enhance social interaction among the community. Drawing inspiration from the iconic “Circle of Time”—the Red Bird Sundial sculpture and its circular pedestal at the Clear Water Bay campus—the hub connects BSC with the main campus. It seamlessly extends the educational experience from indoors to outdoors.
As the 2030 Development Goals approach, the HKUST Business School is working to build a more international, innovative, AI-native hub integrated with industry and policy.
