Young Global Leaders Education Module

I was honored to participate in the AI Education Module co-hosted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the World Economic Forum. Engaging with over 30 global youth leaders from five continents on the rapid advancements and applications of AI was an invaluable learning experience. The participants, hailing from diverse sectors such as high-tech, media, government, financial investment, and non-profits, offered a comprehensive and multifaceted perspective, deepening our understanding of the global impact of AI. HKUST provided opportunities for us to interact with leaders across industries, presenting a viewpoint anchored in Hong Kong, looking towards the Greater Bay Area, and extending globally. Moreover, through various cultural & mental activities, it enabled us to appreciate the beauty of humanity beyond technology. I firmly believe that, propelled by AI, humanity is poised to move towards a broader, brighter, and more harmonious future.

I am inspired to participate in the WEF YGL HKUST program on "Our AI-Driven Future: Prospect and Pitfalls". The deep dive discussions on technical, theoretical and real-world applications of artificial intelligence are a testament to HKUST's position as one of the premiere institutions introducing cutting edge technology into society.

AI in education raises crucial questions about our future. The HKUST speaker sparked meaningful discussions and skillfully guided us through the complexities, offering valuable insights into balancing theory and practice to create an AI resilient and adaptive learning environment.

This course provided me with a thorough understanding of AI's strengths and limitations, explored its evolving applications, and addressed legal and governance concerns I had in mind. The insights into China and Hong Kong's unique contexts, combined with learning from global peers, are truly enriching.

The program provided a unique opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge research, trends and applications of AI across a range of fields, from healthcare, finance, education or arts. HKUST provided us with a deep understanding of the innovation ecosystem in China and Asia more broadly, and most importantly, with a space to discuss complex questions around geopolitics, ethics, and governance with leading academics and practitioners in the field. Mutual understanding is the first step towards collaboration, and Hong Kong is the right place to build much-needed bridges to address our shared challenges and ensure AI is deployed for the benefit of all.

It was a fascinating immersion into AI with high quality speakers, professors and classmates. I found it valuable to pierce through the hype of AI and learn directly from the pioneers at the forefront.  The debates on the human implications of AI were deep as were the diverse geopolitical perspectives.  HKUST was the perfect place to have this - a global campus where East meets West with world class faculty and such a diverse and energizing student body.

Immersing myself in the AI landscape at HKUST campus was enlightening. The program highlighted that while AI is the engine of the future, compassionate leadership must be the steering wheel - linking to ethic and governance topics. I was deeply impressed by HKUST’s blend of academic rigor and practical foresight, and we YGL crew had such a wonderful time with the staff and professors and event HKUTS students on your beautiful campus! I leave with a renewed commitment to leveraging AI not just for efficiency, but to amplify human potential and drive inclusive growth.

The sessions at HKUST were intellectually rich, very well curated, and gave me a lot of concrete ideas to bring back to my work in Indonesia on AI literacy. Thank you again for the generous hospitality and meaningful discussions.

AI is transforming work at remarkable speed, and those who embrace it will outperform those who don’t. Explainability is still evolving, which makes humans-in-the-loop essential for accountability and ethics. What impressed me most at HKUST was that the professors weren't just teaching trends; they’re active researchers shaping the field, creating AI models themselves. The insights come from their own studies which makes the learning experience progressive and very unique.

The World Economic Forum x HKUST Young Global Leaders Education Module, Our AI Future is Now, reinforced that AI is fundamentally a leadership question, not just a technology one. Through insights and discussions led by HKUST faculty and guest speakers, we were encouraged to examine AI's role in leadership critically. My key takeaway is the need for leaders to pair innovation with responsibility, and using AI to augment human potential, reduce inequality and build more resilient organisations. The future belongs to those who can steward AI with clarity, ethics and courage.

The WEF–YGL education module at HKUST was a truly enriching experience, deepening my understanding of leadership and systemic thinking in an AI-driven world. The thoughtfully designed programme, world-class faculty, dedicated organising team, and inspiring YGL peers made the week both intellectually rewarding and personally meaningful.  Thanks HKUST and YGL for creating such an impactful learning platform.
