HKUST Prof. LAW Kam-Tuen Named "New Cornerstone Investigator" – Hong Kong's Only Honoree this Year
Prof. LAW Kam-Tuen, Chair Professor of the Department of Physics and the Director of Research Office at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been named a "New Cornerstone Investigator" by the Tencent-funded New Cornerstone Science Foundation. The prestigious award will provide up to RMB 15 million over five years to support his research efforts in quantum physics.Among 35 distinguished scientists selected this year from across the nation, Prof. Law is the sole honoree from Hong Kong, underscoring HKUST’s leading role in fundamental scientific research.
Prof. DAI Xi, the Dr William M W Mong Professor of Nanoscience and Chair Professor of Physics at HKUST, has been awarded the 2025 Future Science Prize in Physical Science.

Prof. GUO Yike Elected as International Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Prof. GUO Yike, Provost and Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been elected as an International Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Information and Electronics Engineering Division. The CAE is the nation's highest academic institution in engineering sciences and technology, and membership is considered as the highest lifelong academic honor in the field.

Prof. XIE Yuan Awarded 2025 Overseas Outstanding Contribution Award by China Computer Federation
Prof. XIE Yuan, Fang Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was honored with a 2025 CCF Overseas Outstanding Contribution Award by China Computer Federation (CCF). He is concurrently Director of the Jockey Club STEM Lab of Future Advanced Computing Technologies (FACT Lab) and the Institute of Integrated Circuits and Systems at HKUST.

Over 200 HKUST Scholars Named among the World's Top 2% Scientists 2025
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has achieved remarkable success in Stanford University's latest World's Top 2% Scientists 2025 list. A total of 204 scholars were recognised for their single-year impact, while 181 were acknowledged for their career-long impact, marking increases of 15% and 7%, respectively, compared to last year. These achievements underscore HKUST's significant academic and research prowess as a global top 50 university, dedicated to making an internationally recognised impact.14 HKUST scholars were ranked among the top 10 in the world in their sub-fields for both single-year and career-long impact, including (ordered by Single-year Impact Rank):

HKUST Thanks MOST for Vote of Confidence with Granting of Three State Key Labs
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today received plaques from YIN Hejun, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) for its three State Key Laboratories (SKLs) at the Government Headquarters of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). HKUST sincerely thanks MOST, and the Hong Kong Innovation, Technology, and Industry Bureau (ITIB) for their continued trust and recognition of the University’s research efforts. In addition to the two renamed SKLs following restructuring – the “State Key Laboratory of Nervous System Disorders (SKLNSD)” and the “State Key Laboratory of Displays and Opto-Electronics (SKLDOE)” – HKUST will also collaborate with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to establish a new “State Key Laboratory of Climate Resilience for Coastal Cities (SKLCRCC)”.
