HKUST Presents Long Service Awards
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its fourth Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony honoring faculty and staff members who have served the University for 20 years. HKUST established the Long Service Award to express appreciation and recognition to long-serving faculty and staff members whose hard work and dedication have contributed to the University's rapid rise over the past 21 years. This year, HKUST is presenting the Award to 274 members who joined the University in 1993. HKUST President Prof Tony F Chan, together with the vice-presidents, deans, heads and directors were present in the presentation ceremony. The awardees' families and friends were also invited by the University. Over 600 persons joined in the celebration.

Oxford and HKUST Sign MoU in Davos on Establishing a Leadership and Public Policy Series
On 25 January 2013 in Davos, Switzerland, University of Oxford Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Hamilton and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) President Professor Tony Chan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for International Collaboration. Under this collaboration, both sides agree to jointly establish the Oxford-HKUST Leadership and Public Policy Series, which aims to provide executive education short courses to public sector officials from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and eventually Asia.

HKUST Faculty Win China's State Science and Technology Awards
Prof Tianshou Zhao, Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of Center for Sustainable Energy Technology, and Prof Qian Zhang, Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) were recognized with the most prestigious awards in science and technology in China - State Natural Science Award (Second Class) bestowed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Another research project "Discovery and investigation of novel magnetocaloric effect materials" by Prof Xixiang Zhang, a former professor and now an Adjunct Professor at HKUST's Physics Department, and the research team from the Institute of Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences also won the State Natural Science Award (Second Class).

HKUST Presents Third Season of Internationally-Acclaimed Exploration Creativity
Hailed by the Financial Times as "the city's most innovative music experience," The Intimacy of Creativity, the first-of-its kind in Hong Kong, is a two-week Partnership devoted to an intimate dialogue between composers and performers presented by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). It returns to Hong Kong 22 April to 5 May, 2013. Based on an idea that is at once new and old, world-renowned composers and performers, and assorted emerging composers come together to exchange musical ideas in depth, for the purpose of improving their compositions, or their performance practice or their musical interpretations. This will be done over the course of two weeks in Open Discussions. Audiences will be ringside to witness the birth of new music and hear the final results for themselves at the World Premiere Concerts at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre on 28 April and 5 May, 2013.

HKUST Receives a Donation from Dr Ko Pui-shuen for Library's Special Collections Gallery and University Archives
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a three million donation from Dr Ko Pui-shuen, Chairman of Kingrich Asia Holdings Limited for the Library's Special Collections Gallery and University Archives project. In honor of Dr Ko's generosity, the Library is naming its Archives and Special Collections Reading Room as ‘Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce Ko Pui Shuen Gallery.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is conferring Named Professorships to a selected number of distinguished faculty under the aegis of the HKUST Named Professorship Program, a university-wide scheme intended to foster areas of academic excellence and honor outstanding faculty members in the University.
