Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) students won the "Best Business Idea Award" in EY Hackathon Hong Kong 2017 with a flight delay prediction project which was recommended as the highest commercial value project in the competition.

HKUST Robotics Team Wins Nine Robotics Awards Including MATE ROV World Champion
The Robotics Team of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has scooped nine awards this year – including the world championship of the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) International Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) competition in Long Beach, California – the first Asian team who gained this honor since the game began in 2002. In the MATE contest, the ROV division of HKUST’s Robotics Team Beluga beat 24 competitors from regions across Europe, US, Canada, Asia and Middle East – all champions from their own countries, to gain the world championship and the Safety Conscious Award. This came after another division of the team Fiery Dragon won the Hong Kong Robocon Competition for the 8th time in June.

HKUST Appoints Dr Sabrina M Y Lin as Vice-President for Institutional Advancement
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today the appointment of Dr Sabrina M Y Lin as the University’s next Vice-President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA), starting 1 November, 2017. Dr Lin, currently Corporate Vice President, Commercial Business for Greater China at Cisco Systems Inc., is a senior executive with a track record spanning across global technology companies, universities and entrepreneurial businesses, as well as an international background with extensive work experience in the North and South America, Asia Pacific and Greater China.  She is one of the few Asian women leaders at Cisco and is among the 2017 Forbes China’s Top 50 Business Women.  Her appointment is the result of a rigorous global search.

IPO students embarked on their career development beyond their expectation via Airport Authority's Internship Program
The Summer Internship Closing Ceremony, organized by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) was held successfully on 11 August 2017, indicating that the AA Summer Internship Program 2017 finally came to an end. Three IPO students from the Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program (RMBI) and the Environmental Management and Technology Program (EVMT), together with four other HKUST students selected for the Program had a fruitful experience in this eight-week internship and gave their project presentation in the ceremony.

PowerSearch got a new look and new functions this summer. Not only at HKUST, but at all 8 UGC-funded university libraries (known as JULAC) as well. We have all moved onto one single online platform for you to find, access, retrieve, and request resources from the 8 UGC libraries. The aggregate collection of materials from all JULAC Libraries is known as HKALL.
