3月12日下午,中央港澳工作辦公室主任、國務院港澳事務辦公室主任夏寶龍在北京會見香港科技大學(科大)校董會主席沈向洋、校長葉玉如一行。中央港澳工作辦公室、國務院港澳事務辦公室室務會成員向斌参加會見。 夏寶龍主任表示,香港科技大學成立30多年來,堅持立德樹人根本任務,上下團結一心,勇於開拓創新,主動攻堅克難,在培養優秀專業人才、推動產學研協同創新、深化兩地交流合作等方面取得了優異成績。夏主任指出,希望科大大力弘揚愛國愛港光榮傳統,堅定支持行政長官和特區政府依法施政,積極參與北部都會區建設,助力香港高等教育發展不斷創造新輝煌。他表示,高等教育是香港的「金字招牌」,包括香港科技大學在內的香港高校肩負著服務強國建設和民族復興的歷史使命,要充分發揮「一國兩制」制度優勢,主動對接國家發展戰略,積極融入粵港澳大灣區建設,強化教育對科技和人才的支撐作用,著力打造國際高端人才集聚高地,在推動香港由治及興、推進中國式現代化進程中貢獻更大力量。 沈向洋主席感謝夏主任對科大的關心和指導,表示科大將全力以赴落實夏主任的期望和要求。他說:「科大上下團結一心,將充分發揮香港在『一國兩制』制度下『背靠祖國、聯通世界』的優勢,肩負起時代賦予的使命與責任,培養更多具有家國情懷、國際視野和創新精神的優秀人才,成為國家高素質創新型人才的蓄水池,同時在科技創新、產業轉型升級和社會服務等領域發揮更大的作用,為國家和香港發展作出更大貢獻。」 葉玉如校長亦感謝夏主任對科大辦學成就的肯定和支持。她表示:「科大自創校以來以服務國家為使命,不斷開拓創新人才培養模式,吸引匯聚全球優秀人才,打造兼具國際視野和創新能力的學術高地。未來,科大會更積極融入國家發展戰略,拓展辦學布局,推動包括醫學院等重點項目建設,支持北部都會區發展和粵港澳大灣區建設,通過高水平人才培養、前沿技術突破以及卓越成果轉化,為國家和香港發展貢獻所長。」

Though he had never previously studied commerce, he elected to write a business plan for his grade-10 personal project. “I asked a business teacher to mentor me on my project which involved pitching the opening of a suit store in a nearby shopping mall,” says Bor Hung. His teacher was subsequently amazed by the in-depth and articulate nature of his research and strategic thinking.

HKUST Builds Green Living Hub for Students
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) celebrated today the opening of Jockey Club Global Graduate Tower (the Tower) – a new hostel supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), that offers a total of 504 bed spaces for the University’s research postgraduate (RPg) students. The new tower not only comes with innovative green features which earned it a prestigious green building award, but is also a testing ground for a sustainability project that aims to cut energy consumption and change hall residents’ behavior towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

HKUST Becomes the First University in Asia-Pacific Associated with EY Tax Lab
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announces a collaborative partnership with EY’s Advanced Technology Tax Lab (“Tax Lab”). This unique collaboration brings together experts in data science, machine learning and business research, as well as a global leader in professional services, to solve complex tax issues through the use and application of advanced technologies.  The agreement between HKUST and EY will establish a platform for joint research and technology development opportunities of mutual interest relating to the application of emerging technology to practical tax scenarios, thereby facilitating collaborations between the two organizations. This will include practical tax technology case study projects, speaking opportunities for HKUST academic staff and EY partners, and internship and graduate employment opportunities for students.

HKUST Ranked First in Greater China, Top 20 in World, in Global Graduate Employability Rankings
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has climbed to No.18 in the high-profile Global Employability University Ranking 2013. HKUST is the only university in Greater China in the top 20.The survey and rankings are conducted by Emerging, a French human resources consultancy, and Trendence, a leading European research institute. The ranking was derived from the responses of 5,000 recruiters in a total of 30 countries and regions, including France, Germany, Italy, the US, the UK, Japan, Singapore, Mainland China and Hong Kong: Those responding comprised 2,700 online, and some 2,300 CEOs and chairmen from the leading 1,000 companies, who cast votes for the top 150 universities producing the most employable graduates.
