The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau (French Consulate General) for the third time, deepening eight-year collaboration. This agreement strengthens joint efforts to address global sustainability challenges, which include the Anita Conti Sustainable Innovation Fellowship, an initiative designed to foster the development of the next generation of researchers, innovators, and environmentalists, equipping them to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change and its global impacts.

Addressing the global financial sector’s surging demand for expertise in financial crimes and forensic accounting, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has partnered with KPMG and Griffith University to introduce Asia’s first Master of Science in Accounting (MSAC) program concentration dedicated these critical fields. According to the World Economic Forum, the global cost of financial crimes and money laundering is approximately US$1.45 trillion annually. This new concentration within HKUST’s MSAC program will significantly strengthen Hong Kong's talent pipeline to prevent and combat financial crimes, while contributing to a more secure and resilient financial system.

Prof. SONG Xueyang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Croucher Tak Wah Mak Innovation Award for her groundbreaking research in theoretical condensed matter physics. Her research promises to revolutionize energy-efficient technologies by designing materials with unprecedented control over electricity and heat. Prof. Song will receive HKD 5 million in funding from the Croucher Foundation to support her future research. The “Croucher Tak Wah Mak Innovation Award”, one of the Croucher Foundation's top honors, recognizes Hong Kong's brightest young scientific minds poised to make significant breakthroughs. Recipients are selected for their distinguished doctoral work, internationally competitive research, and high-impact contributions to their fields.

Echoing the HKSAR Government’s strategy to develop artificial intelligence (AI) as a core industry, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announced the establishment of the Von Neumann Institute (VNI). Prof. Fugee TSUNG, Chair Professor of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Chair Professor of Data Science & Analytics Thrust and Computational Media & Arts Thrust at HKUST (Guangzhou), has been honored with the 2025 Shewhart Medal by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Widely regarded as the “Nobel Prize in the quality field,” this accolade recognizes Prof. Tsung’s transformative contributions to statistical process control, industrial quality improvement, and academic leadership. He joins an elite group of Chinese scholars to receive this award since its inception in 1948.

Recently, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd. (Shanghai SSCI) held a signing ceremony for a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement to explore comprehensive collaboration in areas such as fund cooperation, technology transfer, and talent cultivation. Prof. GUO Yike, HKUST’s Provost, and Dr. DAI Minmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shanghai State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd., attended the event and witnessed the signing.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announces its Net-Zero Action Plan (Action Plan), which is the first among higher education institutions in Hong Kong to have a comprehensive framework with multi-pronged strategies aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. This plan is supported by a commitment of HK$30 million earned from renewable energy generation to further accelerate research and adoption of innovative decarbonization solutions on campus.
