A Civil Engineer’s Journey to Transform and Inspire Innovation
With a warm smile and larger than life personality, it is easy to see how Michael Leung leads the charge at his firm – a world leader in design and manufacturing of cutting-edge technologies, software and services for the professional construction industry. A personality that can put anyone at ease, his own journey from a young student growing up in Hong Kong’s own Kennedy Town to being the first Asian to lead a global company in Australia, he attributes much of his career success to his alma mater, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

HKUST and BOCHK Forge Strategic Partnership to Drive Innovation and Talent Development (Chinese Version Only)
中國銀行(香港)有限公司(「中銀香港」)與香港科技大學(「科大」)簽訂為期五年的戰略協議,雙方強強聯手,就推動金融科技、人工智能、普惠金融、研究及人才培訓開展合作,探索共同發展機遇,為內地及香港的持份者創造重要效益。在中銀香港副董事長兼總裁孫煜與科大校長葉玉如教授見證下,中銀香港副總裁王化斌與科大副校長(行政)譚嘉因教授簽署合作協議。合作備忘錄涵蓋多個重點合作領域,雙方將聯手激發香港於金融、銀行及金融科技的發展潛力。其中,科大將專注於創新研究,以響應本港在數字金融、金融科技及綠色金融等範疇的策略發展。中銀香港亦將透過獎學金、實習和管理培訓計劃,支持本地人才培育。此外,雙方將構建常態化協同機制,為在內地及香港,以至東南亞地區的科大社群與中銀香港客戶,打造量身訂造的跨境金融服務方案 。中銀香港副董事長兼總裁孫煜表示:「中銀香港根植香港逾百年,一直與社會各界攜手促進經濟社會高質量發展。是次與科大簽署的合作備忘錄標誌著學術界與金融界開展全方位合作,支持本港創科生態圈的蓬勃發展。透過科大領先的學術研發及人才培育專長,結合中銀香港於金融服務及創新應用等領域的前瞻優勢,讓銀校雙方更緊密地實踐產教融合,進一步推動香港作為國際金融與創科中心的領先地位。」科大校長葉玉如教授對雙方達成此次合作表示欣喜。她表示:「是次簽署的合作備忘錄不只是一份正式協議,更是對雙方歷經三十載可靠合作關係的有力證明。對於雙方即將聯手開展的項目,我深感振奮。從為大學社群提供全面金融服務,到推動金融科技、人工智能以及數字化領域的創新,這些舉措將為我們的成員乃至社會各界注入新動能。讓我們懷着滿腔熱忱與共同的使命感,共赴新征程。」

HKUST Leads Tripartite Alliance with KPMG and Griffith University to Launch Asia's First Master Program Concentration
Addressing the global financial sector’s surging demand for expertise in financial crimes and forensic accounting, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has partnered with KPMG and Griffith University to introduce Asia’s first Master of Science in Accounting (MSAC) program concentration dedicated these critical fields.
According to the World Economic Forum, the global cost of financial crimes and money laundering is approximately US$1.45 trillion annually. This new concentration within HKUST’s MSAC program will significantly strengthen Hong Kong's talent pipeline to prevent and combat financial crimes, while contributing to a more secure and resilient financial system.

HKUST, IFEC and Cyberport Host Ideathon to Inspire Web3 Innovations among Tertiary Students
The 2025 Hong Kong Web3 Ideathon: Innovations Empowering the City, a dynamic educational initiative co-organized by the Center for Business and Social Analytics (CBSA) at the School of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School), the Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC), and Cyberport, has concluded with resounding success. The competition highlighted the creative potential of Hong Kong’s tertiary students in the fast-evolving Web3 landscape, drawing participation from 36 teams and over 150 students representing various local institutions.

HKUST and Li & Fung Launch Supply Chain Institute
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Li & Fung, a member of Fung Group, jointly announced today the establishment of the HKUST Li & Fung Supply Chain Institute (the Institute), aimed at advancing research and practices in global supply chain management (SCM) innovation.
The Institute brings together HKUST’s research excellence and Li & Fung’s industry expertise in supply chain management to drive real-world impact across the Greater Bay Area, Greater China, Asia, and globally, while contributing to Hong Kong’s development into a multinational supply chain management center — a strategic objective highlighted in the city’s latest Budget. It aims to reach these goals by engaging in collaborative research, developing business intelligence through industry research and policy studies, and fostering talent development through customized executive education and partnership programs.

HKUST, HKMA and HKIMR Host Global CBDC Conference Featuring Expert Insights from Asia, Europe, and North America
In a collaborative effort to explore the potential of the Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), the School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School), in partnership with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR) under the Hong Kong Academy of Finance hosted today the International Conference on Central Bank Digital Currencies and Payment Systems.
Attended by participants from academia, central banks, financial institutions and fintech firms, this event brought together experts from international financial institutions, central banks, and universities across Asia, Europe, and North America to shed light on a wide range of critical CBDC-related topics, including policy implications, technological innovations, operational challenges and industry dynamics.

HKUST's InvestLM: Hong Kong's First Open-Source Large Language Model for Financial Generative AI Applications
A research team at the School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has developed InvestLM — Hong Kong's first open-source large language model (LLM) for financial generative AI (GenAI) applications, capable of generating investment-related, human-like responses comparable to those of well-known commercial chatbots, including OpenAI's ChatGPT. InvestLM’s model parameters[i] and the insights from its development process have been made publicly available to support industry practitioners and researchers in deploying LLM-related technology.
