This March, the immensely talented cast and production team behind this year’s community musical, Carousel, shone a spotlight on HKUST’s dedication to fostering a vibrant arts culture on campus.Presented by the Shaw Auditorium Unit and co-directed by Dr. Isaac DROSCHA, Senior Lecturer in the Division of Humanities, and Ms. Mandy PETTY, a renowned choreographer, the show represents a cultural blend of classic Broadway musical staged at HKUST.

The Spelling Bee Spells Magic in HKUST’s Annual Community Musical
With its origin rooted in fostering literacy, the buzz of the Spelling Bee has echoed through centuries of American history. What began as a simple tradition has evolved into national spectacles over time, where participants dedicate themselves to memorizing thousands of words and sparking friendly rivalries in competitions.
This year, the Spelling Bee took center stage of Shaw Auditorium at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as part of the University’s signature Community Musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, filling the hall with vibrant energy and the laughter of over 1,800 enthusiatic spectators.

Soothing Songs for the Heavy Hearts
The world seems dark, with troubles, with many heavy hearts.
As we are all doing our best to cope with pandemic anxiety and stay positive despite a gloomy future outlook, the University Choir, HKUSTSU creates an oasis for the mind with melodic songs and dulcet singing.
Themed “Dawn”, the 25th annual performance offers a ray of hope for the lost minds in these challenging times. As the saying goes, “No matter how long or dark the night, the sun will rise again.”

Music Makes Our Students' Dreams Come True
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Atrium at HKUST was filled with the sweet sound of strings on March 23 as a group of 15 specially-trained students presented the ‘Music Dreams Come True’ concert with the support of the HKUSTSU Philharmonic Orchestra and renowned violin virtuoso Yao Jue. This delightful event was a highlight of the HKUST Arts Festival 2017 organised by The HKUST Center for the Arts, drawing an audience of close to 1,000. For many, the high spot of the evening came when HKUST President Tony F Chan, a keen guitarist, joined the orchestra to play a popular Beyond song.
