HKUST Shares Education Innovation insights at THE Event in Malaysia
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently shared its education innovation insights at the Times Higher Education (THE) Campus Live SE Asia forum held in Malaysia from November 26-27, 2024. Representing HKUST, Dr. Sean MCMINN attended the event which convened over 300 leaders in higher education, industry partners and policy experts from across Southeast Asia. The event explored innovative ways to remodel university systems to ensure a resilient future for individuals, institutions and wider society.

HKUST Faculty Spotlight University at Dubai Future Forum
Faculty members of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) community represented the university at the Dubai Future Forum, hosted by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) on November 19-20. Known as the world’s largest gathering of futurists, the event brought together scientists and experts from over 100 countries to forecast critical trends and address global challenges.
Prof. Janet HSIAO from HKUST’s Division of Social Science took the stage on the panel “Towards Symbiosis: How is Our Relationship with Algorithmic Life-Forms Evolving?” where she shares insights on AI's impact on human cognition, the comparability of human and AI intelligence over time, and the importance of governance.

HKUST Strengthens Global Ties at AUA Executives’ Meeting and Youth Forum in India
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) participated in the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Executives’ Meeting at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) from November 11 to 14, 2024. The AUA Executives’ Meeting is held annually with the aims of reviewing the programs, gathering thoughts and discussing the opportunities for future development.
Representing HKUST, Dr. Shin Cheul KIM, Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer), shared the university’s pioneering efforts in nurturing future leaders with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. He highlighted HKUST’s pioneering work in tech transfer and deep tech incubation that are reshaping higher education.

HKUST Enhances Global Collaboration Through Fruitful Dialogues with Cornell University and Global Hub Partners
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), as part of the Global Hubs Network led by Cornell University, participated in the 2024 Global Hubs Network Meeting held in London from October 31 to November 2, 2024. The event was jointly hosted by Imperial College London, King's College London, Queen Mary University of London, University College London and University of Edinburgh.

HKUST Hosts Inaugural AUA Innovation & Entrepreneurship Network Meeting
As the sole university representative from Hong Kong, as part of the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation of distinguished Alliance representatives on November 4 for the inaugural meeting of the AUA Innovation & Entrepreneurship Network.
During the meeting, Prof. Carrie LING, Director of Entrepreneurship Center, highlighted the development of entrepreneurship education and the support provided to student start-ups since the Center's establishment in 1999. Ms Yvonne LI, Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs, shared insights on international partnerships with overseas institutions, focusing on entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer through various educational platforms and competitions.

HKUST Strengthens Collaboration with University of Strathclyde
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) President Prof. Nancy IP, along with key members of the senior leadership including Provost Prof. GUO Yike and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang, warmly received a delegation from the University of Strathclyde (UoS), United Kingdom, led by Prof. Sir Jim MCDONALD, Principal and Vice-Chancellor. The visit highlighted the dynamic and innovative collaborations spanning various disciplines between HKUST and UoS.

HKUST Strengthens Ties with Partners from New Zealand and Sweden
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed delegations from two international universities this week, exploring new avenues for collaboration in research and education.
On October 15, HKUST Provost Prof. GUO Yike, Prof. Hongbo FU, Acting Head of the Division of Arts and Machine Creativity and Yvonne LI, Head of Global Engagement & Greater China Affairs, had an engaging meeting with representatives from Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand, including Prof. Guy LITTLEFAIR, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, and Mr. William HO, Director of International Relations and Recruitment at AUT International Group. The discussions explored potential collaboration in Health, Art Tech and Sports Science. Opportunities for faculty and student exchanges were also discussed. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed, marking the start of a promising partnership.

HKUST Expands Horizon in Education Innovation through Global Network
Provost of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Prof. GUO Yike and Yvonne Li, Head of Global Engagement & Greater China Affairs, attended the APRU Senior International Leaders’ Meeting at Keio University in Tokyo from October 9 - 11, 2024. The event gathered 70 senior representatives from 44 universities across 16 regions, fostering a rich environment for dialogues and collaboration on pressing educational challenges.
In his keynote on “Innovating Higher Education through Creative Technologies”, Prof. Guo discussed the transformative integration of art and AI in education and artistic creation, stimulating discussions on AI’s potential in educational advancements. Following his presentation, Prof. Guo participated in discussion with other senior leaders to further explore the potential of AI in education. The sharing and panel discussion underscored the critical role of educators in achieving cognitive breakthroughs in AI.
