HKUST Advances Strategic Partnership in Medical Education and Research with the University of Bristol
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed an executive delegation from its valued partner, the University of Bristol (Bristol) from the United Kingdom on November 27, marking an important step forward in a partnership built on several meaningful encounters earlier this year. These exchanges have laid a solid foundation for deepening academic and research ties and underscore the shared commitment of both institutions to global education and research collaboration.
During the visit, Prof. Michele ACUTO, Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement) of Bristol, was warmly received by Prof. Nancy IP, President of HKUST, together with senior leadership including Prof. Hong K. LO, Dean of Engineering, Prof. Yung Hou WONG, Dean of Science, Dr. Alison LLOYD, Associate Provost (Institutional Data and Research), Ms. Yvonne HO, Associate Vice-President (Projects) and Prof. Kin Ying MOK, Chief Medical Officer. Discussions focused on HKUST’s development of Hong Kong’s third medical school, joint research initiatives through the Global Knowledge Network joint research seed fund initiative, and collaboration in flagship academic programs.
HKUST also welcomed Prof. Catherine KELLY, Head of Bristol Law School, who met with Prof. Henry LAM, Associate Dean of Engineering (Undergraduate Studies), Prof. Ho Yi MAK, Associate Dean of Science (Student Recruitment) and Prof. Kira MATUS, Acting Head and Professor of the Division of Public Policy on December 16. Building on a long history of academic excellence, both sides identified mutual interest in developing joint pathway opportunities, laying the foundation for future interdisciplinary cooperation.
This visit reaffirmed HKUST’s dedication to working closely with leading international partners to launch pioneering academic programs, advance innovative solutions, and promote global collaboration. The University looks forward to deepening its partnership with Bristol to drive impactful outcomes in medical education, research, and beyond.
