HKUST Empowers Next Generation of Entrepreneurs Across Asia: AUA-HKUST Entrepreneurship Bootcamp 2024
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 2024 AUA-HKUST Overseas Study Program Entrepreneurship Bootcamp from July 2 – 8, 2024. The 7-day program brought together 44 aspiring students from 14 universities across Asia at HKUST campus. Organized by HKUST's Entrepreneurship Center, the comprehensive program provided participants with invaluable insights into Hong Kong's thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, essential pitching skills, and practical guidance on launching startups. Through a week-long program of hands-on activities including design thinking, market research, business planning, financial management, real-world business case studies and networking, the Bootcamp equipped students with critical skills for launching a startup and becoming capable and innovative business leaders in future.

HKUST Engineering Researchers Pave the Way for Advanced Wearable Display Technologies by Developing Full-Color Fiber LEDs Based on Perovskite Quantum Wires
A research team led by the School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed full-color fiber light-emitting diodes utilizing perovskite quantum wires (PeQWs), paving the way for innovative wearable lighting and display devices. Fiber light-emitting diodes (Fi-LEDs) stand out as a key component in the realm of flexible LEDs because of their compatibility with textile fabrication and excellent spatial luminance uniformity. Metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have emerged as promising light-emitting materials for next-generation LEDs due to their superior optoelectronic properties. Despite the potential, the fabrication of MHP-based Fi-LEDs has faced challenges such as gravity- and surface tension-induced nonuniform coating, low-quality crystallization, and complex electrode deposition processes, which all culminate in uneven and inefficient light emission.

HKUST Develops Groundbreaking Artificial Compound Eye to Revolutionize Robotic Vision at Lower Cost but Higher Sensitivity
A research team at the School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has recently developed a novel artificial compound eye system that is not only more cost-effective, but demonstrates a sensitivity at least twice that of existing market products in small areas. The system promises to revolutionize robotic vision, enhance robots' abilities in navigation, perception and decision-making, while promoting commercial application and further development in human-robot collaboration.

HKUST Engineering Researchers Crack the Code to Boost Solar Cell Efficiency and Durability
Photovoltaic (PV) technologies, which convert light into electricity, are increasingly applied worldwide to generate renewable energy. Researchers at the School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have developed a molecular treatment that significantly enhances the efficiency and durability of perovskite solar cells. Their breakthrough will potentially accelerate the large-scale production of this clean energy. A key to the solution was their successful identification of critical parameters that determine the performance and lifespan of halide perovskites, a next-generation photovoltaic material which has emerged as one of the most promising materials in PV devices for its unique crystal structure. The findings have been published in Science.

HKUST, CUHK, HKU and NUS Receive HK$50 million from GS Charity Foundation in Support of Research and Talent Development on Pure Mathematics
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have received a total of HK$50 million donation from GS Charity Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Glorious Sun Group.  This contribution is intended to support academic research and talent cultivation in pure mathematics over the next five years.   Acknowledging the pivotal role and boundless potential of fundamental mathematics in driving technological innovation, the donation from GS Charity Foundation seeks to empower these top universities to spearhead initiatives in nurturing talent, fostering academic exchange and promotion international collaboration.
