HKUST and MBZUAI Join Forces to Shape the Future of AI

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed a delegation from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) including Prof. Sultan Al HAJJI, Vice President of Public Affairs and Alumni Relations, and Ms. Shimer DIAO, Head of Global Partnerships and Business Excellence, to the HKUST campus on March 27. Prof. Al Hajji shared MBZUAI’s distinctive position as the world’s first university focusing on postgraduate research in AI, and its specialized PG programs in AI application in various scopes.

The delegation met with HKUST Provost Prof. GUO Yike and Vice President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang to explore aligned strategic focuses in sustainability, decarbonization, robotics, computer science and bioscience. With HKUST’s expertise in science, engineering and AI, paired with MBZUAI’s leadership in AI research and education, the potential for impactful collaboration is immense. By combining strengths, joint academic programs and curriculum development will help nurture the talent needed to harness AI for global good.

The delegation also visited HKUST’s Center for Engineering Education Innovation, Lee Shau Kee Library and Center for Engineering Education Innovation to experience the cutting-edge learning facilities empowering HKUST students. 

This visit has laid the foundations for collaboration between two pioneering institutions at the helm of AI education and research. HKUST anticipates close collaboration with MBZUAI, accelerating research discoveries and unlocking synergies in the years ahead.
