The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed a distinguished delegation from Sweden on January 14, underscoring the university’s commitment to fostering international collaboration in research and innovation.

HKUST Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer) Dr. Shin Cheul KIM and Associate Provost (Institutional Data and Research) Dr. Alison LLOYD hosted Mr. Daniel EKSTRÖM, Innovation and Science Counsellor at the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing, Consul General of Sweden in Hong Kong & Macao Louise BERGHOLM, and Deputy Consul General Ms. Amelie COYET.

During the meeting, HKUST leaders highlighted the University’s longstanding partnerships with Swedish institutions on various fronts, including research seed grants, student mobility programs and joint academic programs. In addition, a high-level HKUST delegation led by President IP met with the senior leaders of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institutet and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) last September, deepening HKUST’s collaborations with Sweden.

During the fruitful dialogue of this visit, the guests learnt the University’s robust research and knowledge transfer ecosystem, and its strong presence in Chinese Mainland, which laid the solid foundation for new collaborations with Swedish corporates seeking innovative solutions and academic partnerships.

The delegation also toured the State Key Laboratory of Displays and Opto-Electronics, where they were introduced to HKUST’s cutting-edge research in display technology.

With a shared vision of advancing research excellence and nurturing entrepreneurial mindsets in higher education, both sides expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration in the near future.
