HKUST Taps into Deeper Collaboration Opportunities with University of Bristol and University of East Anglia

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the delegations from the University of Bristol and the University of East Anglia on campus, on March 4. These visits strengthened HKUST’s long-standing partnerships with both institutions.

HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang and Chair Professor of the Division of Life Science, Prof. XIE Ting met with Prof. WONG Liang-Fong, Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor (Internationalisation) of the University of Bristol. The meeting focused on expanding student mobility and developing joint postgraduate programs. Prof. Wong also expressed interest in joining the HKUST Global Knowledge Network (GKN), a seed grant initiative designed to promote collaborative research. Following the discussions, Prof. Wong toured the Jockey Club STEM Lab of Regenerative Biology, one of HKUST’s cutting-edge research facilities.

On the same day, the University of East Anglia delegation, including Prof. Steven MCGUIRE, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (International) and Tim HUBBARD, Head of East Asia Recruitment and Partnerships engaged in discussions with Prof. Huamin QU, Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies; Prof. Chris TSANG, Assistant Dean (Administration) & MSc Program Director, School of Business and Management; and Ms. Towni LAO, Head (MBA Program Administration), School of Business and Management. The dialogue explored collaborative opportunities for interdisciplinary research in the areas such as artificial intelligence, data engineering, and environmental science. The delegation then visited the Center for Engineering Education Innovation to discover more about the learning and development programs for engineering students at HKUST.

These engagements reaffirmed HKUST’s vision to foster globally connected research and education ecosystems. The discussions underscored the shared commitment to cultivating future-ready talent and addressing pressing global challenges through academic collaborations.
