The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed a delegation from Khalifa University (KU) on April 10, led by President H.E. Prof. Ebrahim AL HAJRI, marking another important step in the growing partnership between the two research-intensive institutions.

The delegation was received by HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry SHUM, together with Provost Prof. Yike GUO, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, and other members of the University’s senior leadership. During the meeting, both sides held forward-looking discussions on strengthening academic and research collaboration, exploring initiatives such as joint PhD programs, faculty and doctoral student mobility, and seed funding to support early-stage collaborative research.

A key outcome of the visit was the formalization of a university-wide student exchange agreement, reinforcing both institutions’ shared commitment to academic mobility and international partnership. The delegation also visited HKUST’s Von Neumann Institute, the University’s flagship platform for cutting-edge artificial intelligence research and innovation.

Building on the momentum of this visit, HKUST looks forward to translating shared ideas into concrete initiatives with Khalifa University, deepening collaboration in ways that advance research excellence, talent development, and global impact.
