HKUST Launches AI Literacy Hub in Strategic Collaboration with Solomon Learning Group

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today a strategic collaboration with Solomon Learning Group (Solomon Learning) to establish the AI Literacy Hub (the Hub), a major initiative of artificial intelligence education in Hong Kong.

The establishment of the Hub responds to the digital education initiatives outlined in The Chief Executive's 2025 Policy Address, and leverages HKUST's strong capabilities in AI teaching and research, along with Solomon Learning's extensive network, to enhance AI literacy throughout the Hong Kong community.

The launching ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Dr. CHOI Yuk-Lin, Secretary for Education of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China (via video format); Mr. Antony LEUNG, Chairman and Co-Founder of Solomon Learning; Ms. Alison CHAN, CEO and Co-Founder of Solomon Learning; and Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President.

Advancing AI Literacy to Accelerate Digital Transformation
In her congratulatory address, Dr. Choi Yuk-Lin recognized the AI Literacy Hub as a significant milestone in Hong Kong’s educational journey. She said, "This Hub will be vital in cultivating essential skills for our AI-driven society, fostering innovation and building a future-ready talent pool for Hong Kong," she said. "The Education Bureau is committed to steering this transformation by releasing the blueprint for digital education in primary and secondary schools next year, setting out strategic measures to promote digital education. The AI Literacy Hub stands as a powerful testament to the collaborative spirit we need. By joining forces across government, academia, and industry, we shall empower educators and inspire students in driving the future for AI development."

Mr. Antony LEUNG emphasized the shared commitment to nurturing competitive, tech-savvy learners and educators. He said, "At Solomon Learning, we have remained at the forefront of AI advocacy and practical integration, championing the responsible use of emerging technologies in education. The launch of the AI Literacy Hub marks a pivotal step in establishing our city as a regional leader in AI talent cultivation. We aim at empowering schools, teachers and students to embrace the promise of AI, responsibly and effectively. Through this strategic collaboration with government support, we will nurture future-ready talents, foster innovation, and build long-term positive impacts for generations to come."

Prof. Nancy Ip expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with Solomon Learning, stating, "The Hub will serve as a dynamic platform to develop AI education programs for primary and secondary schools, conduct community outreach, and communicate AI developments to the public. The launch of the Hub demonstrates our shared vision of advancing innovation in education. Together, we are not just building a platform but driving positive change to empower our communities and create lasting societal impact."

She further highlighted the alignment between the new Hub, the recently established Von Neumann Institute, and the Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Centre with the government’s digital education initiatives. "These coordinated efforts represent concrete steps to equip our faculty and students with future-proof competencies and position Hong Kong at the forefront of global innovation." Prof. Ip added.

Delivering AI Education Innovations to the Public
Led by Dr. Jac LEUNG, Lecturer of HKUST Division of Integrative Systems and Design and Director of the Hub, the Hub aims to create a dynamic platform to drive innovation and development in AI education for primary and secondary schools. Moving forward, the Hub will collaborate closely with schools and communities to co-develop teaching resources and raise public awareness of cutting-edge AI technologies and advancements.

Under the initiatives proposed in the Policy Address, the Hub is aligned with the Education Bureau’s allocation of HK$2 billion from the Quality Education Fund to enhance IT and innovation education. This includes bridging primary and secondary schools through the “AI Literacy” learning framework, integrating AI education into core curricula, and expanding teacher training in AI technologies.
