Over 180 stalls selling new and preloved items will be set up at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) this Saturday (5 December 2009). The proceeds from the stall hire will be donated to the Operation Santa Claus, and the event also supports the Recycle-Reduce-Reuse (3Rs) campaign.
The bi-annual Garage Sale to be held at the multi-level covered car park on HKUST campus will be selling an extensive variety of exciting new and preloved goods. The sale will be run from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Mrs Jean Hudson, the coordinator, said, "We are delighted that the response from vendors both the HKUST community and outside is overwhelming. The response from 3R enthusiasts is so keen that some of the interested vendors had to be turned down due to space limitation."
Started in October 1996 and held twice a year, the Garage Sale has become an established tradition at HKUST. As in previous years, the proceeds of the sale in winter will be donated to Operation Santa Claus - a charity event organized by Radio Television Hong Kong and the South China Morning Post. The funds raised this year will in turn be donated to 13 charitable organizations under six categories - children, elderly, community, people with mental or physical disabilities, medical issues and the environment.
Apart from raising money for charity, the Garage Sale is also a living example of the commitment of HKUST to environment sustainability.
The stall holders include HKUST students, staff and alumni, as well as outside organizations. Admission to the Sale will be free, and parking facilities as well as food and drinks will also be available.
