HKUST's Community Musical 2026—Rodgers & Hammerstein's 'Carousel' Celebrates 35 Years of Artistic Expression
This March, the immensely talented cast and production team behind this year’s community musical, Carousel, shone a spotlight on HKUST’s dedication to fostering a vibrant arts culture on campus.Presented by the Shaw Auditorium Unit and co-directed by Dr. Isaac DROSCHA, Senior Lecturer in the Division of Humanities, and Ms. Mandy PETTY, a renowned choreographer, the show represents a cultural blend of classic Broadway musical staged at HKUST.

Life-saving Blood Donation Drive Launched with the Hong Kong Red Cross
In a powerful demonstration of community spirit, HKUST is encouraging the campus community to mark our 35th Anniversary by donating blood throughout the celebratory year.The 35th Anniversary blood donation drive reflects HKUST’s longstanding spirit of mutual care and commitment to giving back to society.The blood donation drive kicked off at a ceremony titled “35 for Life: Every Drop Counts, Every Life Matters” on March 5 at the University’s Clear Water Bay campus. The drive responds to the urgent need to maintain adequate blood supplies against falling numbers of donors. Over the past decade, the number of active donors has fallen by 24%, with participation among people aged 16 to 30 dropping sharply, from 45% to 17%.

HKUST and the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center Sign Memorandum of Understanding
On March 13, 2026, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center (NMEFC) held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony and inaugural collaborative exchange meeting at the Sir Sze-yuen Chung Council Chamber, HKUST. The Otto Poon Center for Climate Resilience and Sustainability (CCRS) at HKUST served as the lead unit on behalf of the University in signing the MoU and will be responsible for the execution and advancement of subsequent collaboration. Ms. KANG Jian, Director of NMEFC, and Prof. LU Mengqian, Director of CCRS at HKUST, signed the memorandum on behalf of their respective organizations, with Dr. Ir Otto POON, Chairman of the Board of Analogue Holdings and Founder of the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation, Mr. LI Zhiqiang, Head of the Operational Science and Technology Division of NMEFC, and Prof.

HKUST Launches Blood Donation Campaign
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently held the kick-off ceremony for the "35 for Life" campaign, marking the launch of this meaningful year-long blood donation campaign. In partnership with the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service, the University will organize 35 blood drives across its Clear Water Bay and Guangzhou campuses. The first three-day blood drive (March 5 to 7) attracted over 300 faculty, students, and alumni from both campuses.As one of HKUST's 35th-anniversary celebration initiatives, this campaign brings together the compassion of the University community and channels it into meaningful support for the public good. It also reflects HKUST's commitment to advancing healthcare innovation as the University prepares for the establishment of its new medical school.

Our alumni community joined “The opening ceremony of the Alumni Commons and A Feast of Togetherness – Poon Choi Party.” on January 17, 2026 (Saturday) on the Clear Water Bay campus at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The event was co-organized with the HKUST Alumni Association and the HKUST Convocation.The HKUST Alumni Commons is the first dedicated on-campus space where alumni can renew friendships, spark new ideas, and foster lasting bonds across generations. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Zhejiang University (ZJU) recently co-hosted the Pacific Asia and Australasia Regional Finals of the 2025-26 Global Sustainability Challenge at ZJU’s Zijingang campus in Hangzhou. The inaugural competition, initiated by the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, brings together leading educational institutions and experts around the world to provide a platform for students to design, implement, and showcase innovative sustainability solutions. Ten outstanding teams, including one from HKUST, have advanced to the global finale in April to compete for the championship.

HKUST Partners with Industry Leaders to Pilot Nature-Related Assessment for Commercial Properties
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has partnered with Gammon Construction Limited (Gammon), Swire Properties, and AXA Climate on a pioneering initiative to apply the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework to commercial premises. A team of students from HKUST’s BSc in Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) has completed Hong Kong’s first student-driven TNFD-based assessment for commercial properties, providing strategic recommendations to integrate nature into business and financial decisions.
