HKUST Professor ZHAO Tianshou Elected as Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences
Prof. ZHAO Tianshou, Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Engineering and Environment, Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Director of Energy Institute at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) – bringing the total number of CAS members at HKUST to five. CAS membership is the highest academic recognition conferred by the Chinese government for science and technology research achievements. Only scientists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of science can be nominated, and they require the support of more than two third of the members from their own division in order to be elected.  Among the 64 members and 20 Foreign members elected for 2019, Prof. Zhao is the only academic chosen from Hong Kong under the Technological Sciences division, for his achievements in engineering thermos-physics and clean energy production.

Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program Ranks Among the Top for the Tenth Time
The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA) Program has stayed among the top and claimed No.2 in this year’s Financial Times EMBA Ranking. Since 2010, the EMBA Program, jointly offered by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, has been consistently ranked among the world’s best clinching No.1 for seven times and No.2 for three times in the past ten years. According to the latest Financial Times EMBA Ranking 2019, the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program continues to achieve an outstanding performance overall. On career progress, our graduates have achieved the highest average salary three years after graduation, reaching US$513,014 (HK$4,001,509) per annum and standing out among the top 100 surveyed programs.

Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Ranks Top Spot in QS Global Rankings
The Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (EMBA) Program is ranked the top in the world in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global EMBA Rankings 2019.For the third time, QS profiles the world’s top EMBA programs, including a separate chart for the best joint EMBA programs offered as partnerships across more than one school. The Kellogg-HKUST EMBA has not only ranked the best joint EMBA program for the second time in three years, but also scored a perfect 100 in two of the five indicators used to compile the ranking, namely “employer reputation” and “career outcomes”. Launched in 1998, the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA is the first joint EMBA program in Asia and has maintained its leading position for over two decades. In addition to the latest QS Rankings, the Program made a record-setting achievement last year by topping the Financial Times Global EMBA Rankings for the ninth time.

HKUST Presents Long Service Awards 2019
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its annual Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony today to honor faculty and staff members who have served the University for at least 20 years. HKUST also conferred its first 30 years’ service award this year.  Despite a history of just 28 years, dozens of administrative staff spanning across areas including finance, human resources, facilities management, public affairs and library, among others, have begun preparatory work for the campus as early as 1989.   HKUST established the Long Service Award to express appreciation to and recognition for long-serving faculty and staff members.  It was also meant to foster a sense of belonging for the HKUST community. There were a total of 43 awardees this year: 28 with 30 years of service and 15 of 20 years.

Croucher Foundation Presents Research Awards to Seven Distinguished Scholars (Issued on behalf of the Croucher Foundation)
The Croucher Foundation held the presentation ceremony of the Innovation and Senior Research Fellowship Awards today (December 7), honoring seven distinguished scholars from four universities including The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and City University of Hong Kong (CityU), for their excellent scientific research achievements. The Honorable Mr. Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration, was the Guest of Honor at the ceremony. This year, three awardees were presented with the Croucher Innovation Awards, three with the Croucher Senior Research Fellowships and one with the Croucher Senior Medical Research Fellowship. Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA 20th Anniversary Management Conference
The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR Government, The Honorable Mrs Carrie Lam, together with other prominent leaders, offered insights into the role of leadership at a management conference organized by the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA (KH EMBA) Program today. Mrs Carrie Lam was the Guest of Honor at the event. Other members who officiated at the conference included Mr Andrew Liao, HKUST Council Chairman; Prof Wei Shyy, Acting President of HKUST; Prof Kar Yan Tam, Dean of HKUST Business School; and Prof Sally Blount, Dean of Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
