The School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) has earned the “CEMS School of the Year” title, becoming the first Asian school to receive this international honor.
CEMS is a global alliance that collaborates with 30 leading business schools around the world to offer a Master’s degree program in International Management. Its curriculum is consistent across all member schools, where students can choose to spend one semester each at two schools on different continents, gaining a truly global understanding of the business world and double recognition on graduation.
“I am glad that HKUST was awarded CEMS School of the Year. The award manifests the international standing of our School and the value of the courses we offered,” said Prof Kar Yan Tam, Dean of HKUST Business School. “We believe that a strong global alliance of academic and corporate partners like CEMS enables our students to benefit from real-world business exposure and prepare for an international career.”
This year, more than 1,200 students in the CEMS program worldwide have been given an opportunity to participate in selecting the CEMS School of the Year and other accolades, through their program exit survey and course evaluations. The HKUST Business School, in its third year of offering the program, has been chosen the CEMS School of the Year, and its elective course “Global Macroeconomics” was also named as one of the three CEMS Courses of the Year.

“Asia will remain the growth engine for the world and there will be very few industries and career paths that won’t be impacted by Asia,” said Mr Sean Ferguson, Associate Dean (MBA & MSc Programs) and Director of MBA Programs. “Our partnership with CEMS helps us nurture students with broad based skillset, multi-cultural aptitudes and international exposure, contributing to the sustained development of the burgeoning Asian market.”
CEMS academic membership is by invitation only, and its selected institutions are among the best in their regions including top business schools such as the London School of Economics & Political Science and HEC Paris in Europe, as well as Tsinghua University and the National University of Singapore in Asia. HKUST is the only academic member in Hong Kong. The network also has more than 80 corporate partners including Facebook, Google, UBS, P&G, Fung Group, and the United Overseas Bank (UOB). The China CITIC Bank International as the second CEMS corporate partner brought in by HKUST has just joined the CEMS network this year to provide more business exposure for students.
