HKUST and FWE Co-Host Conference on AI, Technology, and Education
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), in partnership with the Forum for World Education (FWE), recently hosted a landmark two-day international summit at HKUST’s Shaw Auditorium. The HKUST–FWE Conference on AI, Technology, and Education gathered over 150 global school leaders and tech innovators under the theme “Better AI · Better Technology · Better Education · Better World” to jointly explore the latest trends in the development of AI education.HKUST and FWE jointly created a forward-looking, cross-sector dialogue platform that breaks through traditional conference frameworks. The Summit brought together government representatives, university researchers, and EdTech executives, along with frontline primary and secondary school principals, teachers, and students, to exchange ideas and foster deeper cross-sector collaboration.

HKUST Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Medical Education and Research Complex
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received support from the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) last year to establish the city’s third medical school, and the preparatory work is progressing steadily. HKUST today held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Medical Education and Research Complex, which will serve as the principal teaching and research base for the School of Medicine (SMED) during its initial phase. This complex will provide advanced facilities and resources for medical education and research, helping SMED to nurture more high-caliber medical and technology professionals for both Hong Kong and the nation.

Amid the fun-filled entertainment— from robot dogs and musical performances to drumming, dance, and jaw-dropping rope skipping routines— the ceremony was characterized by a moving tribute to the legacy of HKUST founders, reiterating how HKUST’s “can-do” energy can fuel the future development of Hong Kong and the region.HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP established the reflective tone in her welcoming address, in which she accentuated how HKUST’s founding spirit had guided the University’s dynamic evolution over the past thirty-five years.This foundational ethos was set in motion by the late Founding President, Prof. Chia-Wei WOO, who had envisioned HKUST as Hong Kong’s first research-intensive university, an institution designed to create knowledge rather than merely transmit it.

HKUST Successfully Hosted the Final Presentation and Award Ceremony for the 2026 GenAI Hackathon on Putonghua Web Tools
The final presentation and award ceremony of the 2026 GenAI Hackathon: Competition on a Putonghua Web Tool, co‑hosted by the Center for Language Education (CLE) and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of the HKUST, successfully took place on March 9, 2026.We were joined by our Guests of Honor, including Dean of SHSS Prof. LI Ping, Director of CLE Prof. Melinda Whong, and Director of CEI Dr. Sean McMinn. We were also delighted to welcome Ms. HOU Ming, Chief Managing Director the Hong Kong Language Studies Center (HKLSC), together with faculty and students from various departments of the University.

Prof. Nancy IP, HKUST President, together with members of the leadership team, including Provost Prof. GUO Yike, Vice-President for Administration and Business Prof. TAM Kar-Yan, Vice-President for Research and Development Prof. Tim CHENG, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, and Vice-President for Development Ir. HKUST Hosts Special Screening and Expert Session of the Documentary "Shen Zhou 13"
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a special screening of the documentary “Shen Zhou 13” on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Tsang Shiu Tim Art Hall on campus. The event attracted nearly 200 HKUST faculty, students, alumni, and members of the wider community to explore Hong Kong's role and opportunities in space science, advanced technology, and the emerging space economy. Attendees gained insights into China's manned space missions and experienced an immersive portrayal of life in space.“Shen Zhou 13” is China's first 8K ultra-high-definition documentary filmed entirely in space. Captured by Shenzhou-13 astronauts ZHAI Zhigang, WANG Yaping, and YE Guangfu using domestically developed 8K cameras aboard the China Space Station, the film documents their six-month mission, offering viewers an authentic glimpse into the daily lives and emotional journeys of astronauts in outer space.
