HKUST Leadership and Public Policy Forum to Discuss the Way Forward for Democracy in Hong Kong

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Leadership and Public Policy (LAPP) Executive Education will organize a forum on 14 February 2015 to discuss the way forward for democratic development in Hong Kong. Renowned local and overseas experts and academics will exchange their views on this hot topic of the city.

Prof John M Carey, John Wentworth Professor of Dartmouth College, member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a top expert in electoral systems, will deliver a keynote address titled “Democratic Principles and Electoral Systems: How Executives and Legislators are Elected”. Dr Vincent H S Lo, Chairman of Shui On Group and former HKUST Council Chairman, will then chair a panel discussion featuring Ms Audrey Eu Yuet-mee, Chairman of the Civic Party, The Honorable Lam Woon-kwong, Convenor of the Non-Official Members of the Executive Council, Prof Dixon Ming Sing, Associate Professor from the Division of Social Science at HKUST, The Honorable Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, President of the Legislative Council, and Prof John M Carey.

Forum organizer and Director of LAPP Executive Education Prof Angelina Yee said this forum will provide a platform for dialogue among different stakeholders and shed light on the next step to make universal suffrage a reality in Hong Kong.

LAPP is designed for senior executives and those who aspire to become the next generation of leaders to better serve society. Its highly successful Executive Education programs consist of thematic series of small seminars to enable deep and candid discussions in an intimate setting, and are based on the combined strengths of HKUST, Oxford, and expertise in the region and around the world. It also runs public lectures and forums on pressing issues confronting Hong Kong.
