Living the Change: Making HKUST’s Campus the Heart of Sustainability Breakthroughs
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) selected eight cutting-edge projects for the latest round of Sustainable Smart Campus as a Living Lab program for testing on campus. Covering a wide range of sustainability challenges on campus, the projects address energy efficiency, renewable energy optimization, water management, wellness, ecosystem enhancement, and predictive maintenance strategies, providing students and faculty with hands-on experience with prototypes before real-world implementation.

HKUST and BOCHK Forge Strategic Partnership to Drive Innovation and Talent Development (Chinese Version Only)
中國銀行(香港)有限公司(「中銀香港」)與香港科技大學(「科大」)簽訂為期五年的戰略協議,雙方強強聯手,就推動金融科技、人工智能、普惠金融、研究及人才培訓開展合作,探索共同發展機遇,為內地及香港的持份者創造重要效益。在中銀香港副董事長兼總裁孫煜與科大校長葉玉如教授見證下,中銀香港副總裁王化斌與科大副校長(行政)譚嘉因教授簽署合作協議。合作備忘錄涵蓋多個重點合作領域,雙方將聯手激發香港於金融、銀行及金融科技的發展潛力。其中,科大將專注於創新研究,以響應本港在數字金融、金融科技及綠色金融等範疇的策略發展。中銀香港亦將透過獎學金、實習和管理培訓計劃,支持本地人才培育。此外,雙方將構建常態化協同機制,為在內地及香港,以至東南亞地區的科大社群與中銀香港客戶,打造量身訂造的跨境金融服務方案 。中銀香港副董事長兼總裁孫煜表示:「中銀香港根植香港逾百年,一直與社會各界攜手促進經濟社會高質量發展。是次與科大簽署的合作備忘錄標誌著學術界與金融界開展全方位合作,支持本港創科生態圈的蓬勃發展。透過科大領先的學術研發及人才培育專長,結合中銀香港於金融服務及創新應用等領域的前瞻優勢,讓銀校雙方更緊密地實踐產教融合,進一步推動香港作為國際金融與創科中心的領先地位。」科大校長葉玉如教授對雙方達成此次合作表示欣喜。她表示:「是次簽署的合作備忘錄不只是一份正式協議,更是對雙方歷經三十載可靠合作關係的有力證明。對於雙方即將聯手開展的項目,我深感振奮。從為大學社群提供全面金融服務,到推動金融科技、人工智能以及數字化領域的創新,這些舉措將為我們的成員乃至社會各界注入新動能。讓我們懷着滿腔熱忱與共同的使命感,共赴新征程。」

HKUST Launches World’s Largest AI-Powered Educational Sandbox Game: Advancing AI Literacy and Encouraging Citizen Science
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announced the launch of “Aivilization”, the largest-scale AI multi-agent social simulation sandbox to date. This innovative platform studies how human interaction with AI can shape a virtual society, where ‘AI inhabitants’ can organically develop their own governance structures, economies and cultural norms.
As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, understanding the dynamics of communication between humans and artificial intelligence has become a crucial area of study. Previous simulation models like Project Sid1 and Stanford Smallville2 have explored similar themes, with community sizes of around 1,000 and dozens of AI agents respectively, to observe the evolution of AI civilizations.

CAHE and HKUST Co-hosts "Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao High-Level University Presidents Roundtable" in Hong Kong
The "Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao High-Level University Presidents Roundtable" hosted by the China Association of Higher Education (CAHE) and co-organized by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), was successfully held in Hong Kong yesterday. Themed "University Missions and Collaborative Innovation in the Context of Building an Education Nation," the event featured a keynote speech by HUAI Jinpeng, Minister of Education of China, with opening remarks by CHAN Kwok-Ki, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, and LIN Huiqing, President of the China Association of Higher Education.

Peaceful Development Fund Management Limited (CHMT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a pivotal moment in accelerating new energy innovation through industry-academia-research collaboration. HKUST, Crystal Group, and HKRITA Signed Framework Agreement
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has signed a tripartite framework agreement with global apparel manufacturer Crystal International Group Limited (Crystal Group) and the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) to integrate advanced artificial intelligence (AI) throughout the textile production process. By developing industry-specific large language model Textile-GPT for textiles, the collaboration aims to enhance intelligent design, optimize production process, streamline supply chain management, automate quality inspections, and foster innovation in smart wearables.
