HKUST Scholar Prof. DAI Xi Wins Tan Kah Kee Science Award and Highest Honor of State Natural Science Award
Prof. DAI Xi, Dr William M W Mong Professor of Nanoscience and Chair Professor of Physics at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), received the Tan Kah Kee Science Award in Mathematics & Physics today (June 25) for his achievements in topological electronic states. This comes a day after he and his research collaborators were recognized with the State Natural Science Award (First Class) by President XI Jinping for the same groundbreaking discoveries, which have opened up new avenues of innovations in condensed matter physics and material science.

HKUST Exemplifies Sustainability Leadership at GSDC in Bangkok Taking 19th Spot Worldwide in Latest Impact Rankings on UN SDGs
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) gained recognition for its efforts to become a global sustainability leader as the University was ranked the world’s 19th*, as well as the first in Hong Kong and Mainland China in its debut appearance in Times Higher Education (THE)’s Impact Rankings, announced in its annual Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) yesterday in Bangkok. Assessing over 2,100 universities worldwide for their impacts in helping achieve the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), THE commended HKUST in particular for its contributions to SDGs 9, 11 and 12, which focus on building resilient infrastructure and industries with innovation, promoting sustainable cities and ensuring responsible consumption and production.

Prof. Ricky LEE Awarded ASME Worcester Reed Warner Medal 2024
Prof. Ricky LEE Shi-Wei, Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Dean of Systems Hub and Chair Professor of Smart Manufacturing Thrust at HKUST (Guangzhou), has been selected to receive the prestigious 2024 Worcester Reed Warner Medal by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in recognition of “defining solder joint failure modes that impact industrial test standards”

HKUST Achieves New Records at 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has made remarkable progress at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, showcasing outstanding achievements and surpassing previous records with 36 teams winning a total of 36 awards. These include the Prize of the Chinese Delegation for Invention and Innovation, four Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, and multiple Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.

A joint study revealing a new mechanism on DNA Replication Initiation, led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and other institutions, has been selected as one of the Top 10 Scientific Advances in China for 2023, making it the only research project from Hong Kong to be included in the list.
