HKUST and Xi'an Jiaotong University Jointly Establish School of Sustainable Development
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) signed an agreement yesterday (28 August) in Xi’an to establish the XJTU-HKUST Joint School of Sustainable Development (JSSD). To tie in with the economic and social development needs of Central and Western regions of Mainland China and beyond, JSSD will focus on promoting sustainability, through nurturing the talents, promoting frontier knowledge and providing advanced technology. It will also create capabilities in the areas of sustainable energy, chemical engineering, materials science, environment, infrastructure, population and socioeconomic development. Both universities are forming a strategic cooperation to foster a new synergetic regional economic development mode.

HKUST Research Team and Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited Jointly Develop Novel Targeted Anticancer Treatments
A cooperation agreement was signed today between spin-off companies of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Guangzhou General Pharmaceutical Research Institute of the Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited for the development of novel targeted anticancer drugs and other new drugs from natural sources. An effort to modernize Chinese medicine writ large, the agreement signals advances in the development of novel drugs and healthcare products.

400 Quality Management Experts Converge on HKUST to Discuss the Latest Developments and Opportunities in Quality Management
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) co-hosted the Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2012 under the theme of ‘Striving for Excellence through Product and Service Quality’. 400 leading experts on quality management converged on campus to shine light on the dynamic outlook of quality management in Asia and explore the opportunities in industry.

Xilinx-HKUST Joint Lab Official Opening
Established by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Xilinx Inc, Xilinx-HKUST Joint Lab officially opened on 25 June 2012. Xilinx Inc donated a kickoff fund of over HK$2 million to equip the Joint Lab. Xilinx announced that Xilinx-HKUST Joint Lab will be the first in the world to receive a generous donation of the next generation FPGA platform with embedded ARM processors in September 2012. HKUST will share a core undergraduate courseware through the Xilinx University Program with universities and institutes around the world.

HKUST Non-local Student Applications Sets a New Record
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recorded the highest ever applications for undergraduate admissions from non-local applicants, with 8,986 applications. The current number is 54% higher than that in 2011. Applications from both Mainland China and overseas students are also at record high.

HP and HKUST Achieve Breakthrough in Advanced Networking and Information Analytics Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and HP today announced breakthroughs regarding their collaboration to advance networking and information analytics technology. New innovations include a wireless multi-hop network which provided wider bandwidth coverage range, as well as an information analytics solution with a new probabilistic approach. HKUST and HP have also been working together to explore innovative approaches to promote education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through the HP Catalyst Initiative.
HKUST is the only Hong Kong institution to receive two awards as part of the fourth annual HP Labs Innovation Research Program (IRP) in September 2011. The program has created opportunities for faculty members and students at leading tertiary institutions worldwide to conduct breakthrough research with HP. HKUST’s projects are two of 62 selected from 626 proposals from 525 researchers.

HKUST Holds The Intimacy Of Creativity - World-Renowned Composers and Performers Meet With Emerging Composers for a First-Of-Its-Kind Concert Series and Workshop
The Intimacy of Creativity, the internationally-acclaimed, annual two-week Partnership devoted to promoting an intimate dialogue between composers and performers, returns to Hong Kong from 23 April to 6 May 2012 for its exciting second season. Presented by the School of Humanities and School Science of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), IC2012 will present music by artists of various music genres, from American folk traditions, to Canto-Pop, to traditional classical and contemporary music styles all deeply rooted in the intimate relationship between performance and composition.
