HKUST Information Day Gives Applicants a Head Start
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted Information Day 2013 to provide prospective undergraduates with up-to-date and comprehensive information, and course offerings. The event drew an overwhelming response with over 35,000 participants converging on the campus in a single day.

HKUST Achieves the First Direct Observation of Homogeneous Crystal Melting at Single-particle Level
A research team led by Prof Yilong Han at the Department of Physics of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has for the first time successfully observed homogeneous melting at single-particle resolution, closing the long-term debate on alleged defects generated before melting. In addition to this, Prof Han and his team members Ziren Wang, Feng Wang, Yi Peng and Zhongyu Zheng also measured the superheat limit of colloidal crystals for the first time. All of these discoveries have been published in the latest issue of , one of the world's most prestigious scientific journals.

HKUST Hosts My Toy Design Competition 2013
My Toy Design Competition 2013 is the first of its kind to be hosted by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management (IELM) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The aims of this Competition are to nurture creativity, encourage exceptional students to pursue a career in design, recruit passionate young toy designers and maintain the overall competitiveness and sustainable development of the toy industry in Hong Kong. China dominates the toy export market as the world’s largest toy manufacturer with over two-thirds of all toys being made in China. Hong Kong is the world’s second largest toy exporter. Domestic toy exports have nearly doubled from HK$154 million in 2009 to HK$302 million in 2011, demonstrating an increasing trend of more toys being both designed and produced in Hong Kong and the South China region and creating a dire need to find and encourage local talents.

HKUST Sole Local Higher Education Institution Invited to share Sustainability Insights with Global Thought Leaders at World Economic Forum
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) became the one and only higher education institution in Hong Kong invited by the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2012 to present at IdeasLab, a presentation and discussion session shining light on the latest developments of environmental sustainability and offering solutions to various types of cross-boundary pollution. Convened in Tianjin, China in September, the World Economic Forum was officiated by Premier Wen Jiabao with the theme of 'Creating the Future Economy'. Over 2000 political and civil society leaders, academics, experts and global entrepreneurs from over 80 counties joined the dialogues, offering extraordinary insights into innovation, energy and resources, mobility, infrastructure and urban development, health among other topics of interest.

HKUST Hosts Haier Group CEO's First Public Lecture in Hong Kong on Self-Management Business Model
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today invited Mr Zhang Ruimin, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Haier Group as a keynote speaker for a Distinguished Lecture. On his first visit to Hong Kong, Mr Zhang spoke to the enthusiastic audience comprising 500 HKUST members, professionals and members of the public on the theme of ‘Successful Enterprises Move with the Times’, during which he shared Haier’s experience of Self-management Model and key to sustainable development.

HKUST among the First in Asia and Only One from Greater China To Become Global Online Education Partner of Coursera
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is among the first in Asia and the only university in Greater China to sign an agreement today (19 September) with Coursera to bring HKUST's courses online worldwide. Coursera is an education technology organization founded by computer science professors from Stanford University. Coursera's current partners comprise world leading universities such as Stanford University, Princeton University, University of Michigan, and the University of Washington. With today's announcement, HKUST will be hosting three debut online courses reaching students across the globe.
