The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is conferring Named Professorships to a selected number of distinguished faculty under the aegis of the HKUST Named Professorship Program, a university-wide scheme intended to foster areas of academic excellence and honor outstanding faculty members in the University. This landmark initiative sustains HKUST’s commitment to excellence in a wide array of subjects encompassing science, engineering, business, social science, life science, nanotechnology, aerospace and others.
President Tony F Chan congratulated the appointed faculty and said, “The HKUST Named Professorship Program presents unprecedented opportunities for HKUST to recruit and recognize distinguished faculty and amplify its strengths in fulfilling its mission. It is a tangible testimony of the University’s enormous respect for the academic caliber of our faculty, as well as an expression of faith in their capacity to make fundamental contributions of wide importance to their respective fields and society at large. The endowments provide additional annual funds to assist with research and academic expenses of the honoree.
“HKUST is wholeheartedly grateful to all donors and benefactors for their generosity and support, which add significantly to the University’s efforts to uphold academic excellence and recruit outstanding faculty while providing the flexibility needed in the pursuit of its goals. The endowments are also proof of the breadth and depth in the education and research HKUST have to offer,” added President Chan. With unflinching support and ongoing commitments from the local and international organizations, HKUST has seen over the years a significant increase in the number of professorships.
