A team led by ECE Asst. Prof. LI Xiaomeng, who is also Assoc. Director of Center for Medical Imaging and Analysis, has developed a new AI model capable of generating high-quality 3D images of patients' bones and anatomy in under a minute with just 2–4 X-ray snapshots, as compared to 400-500 for CT scans.
HKUST has launched the Extended Major framework (Major+X) since 2020, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary, application-oriented studies and the fostering of international visions to help students master AI skills and enhance their competitiveness in the employment market.
In the book titled "《香港:走向國際專上教育樞紐──大學校長訪談錄》(HK moving towards an international hub for higher education - interviews with university presidents)" compiled by Master Insight, HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP highlighted HKUST's achievements in industry-academia-research collaboration and technology transfer, noting the University has the highest proportion of international students among local universities.
