A team led by ECE Asst. Prof. LI Xiaomeng, who is also Assoc. Director of Center for Medical Imaging and Analysis, has developed a new AI model capable of generating high-quality 3D images of patients' bones and anatomy in under a minute with just 2–4 X-ray snapshots, as compared to 400-500 for CT scans. 

HKUST has signed an environmental project cooperation agreement with Jiangsu DAOTOP Environmental Technology to implement the first benchmark project under the RAISe+ Scheme in Wuxi.

Researchers led by ECE Assoc. Prof. Abhishek K. SRIVASTAVA innovated a new class of green-emitting quantum rods, developing the world’s brightest and most energy-efficient quantum rod LEDs (QRLEDs). 

HKUST’s SBM and Tsinghua University’s PBC School of Finance jointly launched a program aimed at developing global leaders in finance and tech. 

A team led by PHYS Chair Prof. LAW Kam-Tuen recently discovered an existing two-dimensional material, after modification, could become an excellent quantum computer chip, significantly enhancing current quantum computers’ computational and storage capabilities. 

PointFit Technology, a startup incubated by HKUST, focuses on developing non-invasive exercise monitoring products.  Initially targeting regions with mature fitness cultures like Shanghai and SZ, the company plans for gradual international expansion. 

HKUST has launched the Extended Major framework (Major+X) since 2020, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary, application-oriented studies and the fostering of international visions to help students master AI skills and enhance their competitiveness in the employment market. 

The third "Four Seas Cup" Hong Kong International University Student WeiQi Competition, hosted by the Hong Kong Greater Bay Area WeiQi Promotion Association with HKUST as a partnering university, was successfully concluded.

HKUST announced the appointment of Prof. Charles NG Wang-Wai as VP (Institutional Advancement), effective August 1, 2025. 

HKUST has set a new institutional record by securing over HK$279 million for six research projects across all three flagship schemes under RGC.

In the book titled "《香港：走向國際專上教育樞紐──大學校長訪談錄》(HK moving towards an international hub for higher education - interviews with university presidents)" compiled by Master Insight, HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP highlighted HKUST's achievements in industry-academia-research collaboration and technology transfer, noting the University has the highest proportion of international students among local universities.
