雷海潮主任在座談會中充分肯定了香港科技大學在人才培養、科技創新、成果轉化及國際合作等方面取得的突出成績。 他表示,希望港科大發揮自身在教育、科研及國際化方面的優勢,一方面加快推進醫學教育的創新發展,探索學科交叉融合,培養面向未來的高層次複合型人才; 另一方面加快科技創新步伐,推動高水平科研成果在臨床上的轉化與應用,裨益社會。 同時,他還期待港科大利用國際化的資源和優勢,為國家培養更多具有國際視野和國際治理能力的國際化人才,為全球健康事業貢獻中國智慧和力量。

夏寶龍主任表示,香港科技大學成立30多年來,堅持立德樹人根本任務,上下團結一心,勇於開拓創新,主動攻堅克難,在培養優秀專業人才、推動產學研協同創新、深化兩地交流合作等方面取得了優異成績。夏主任指出,希望科大大力弘揚愛國愛港光榮傳統,堅定支持行政長官和特區政府依法施政,積極參與北部都會區建設,助力香港高等教育發展不斷創造新輝煌。他表示,高等教育是香港的「金字招牌」,包括香港科技大學在內的香港高校肩負著服務強國建設和民族復興的歷史使命,要充分發揮「一國兩制」制度優勢,主動對接國家發展戰略,積極融入粵港澳大灣區建設,強化教育對科技和人才的支撐作用,著力打造國際高端人才集聚高地,在推動香港由治及興、推進中國式現代化進程中貢獻更大力量。
沈向洋主席感謝夏主任對科大的關心和指導,表示科大將全力以赴落實夏主任的期望和要求。他說:「科大上下團結一心,將充分發揮香港在『一國兩制』制度下『背靠祖國、聯通世界』的優勢,肩負起時代賦予的使命與責任,培養更多具有家國情懷、國際視野和創新精神的優秀人才,成為國家高素質創新型人才的蓄水池,同時在科技創新、產業轉型升級和社會服務等領域發揮更大的作用,為國家和香港發展作出更大貢獻。」

HKUST Develops World’s First Kilowatt-Scale Elastocaloric Green Cooling Device
Researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have developed the world’s first kilowatt-scale elastocaloric cooling device. The device can stabilize indoor temperatures at a comfortable 21-22°C in just 15 minutes, even when outdoor temperatures reach between 30-31°C, marking a significant breakthrough toward the commercial application of elastocaloric solid-state cooling technology. The research findings have been published in the leading international science journal Nature, offering a promising solution to combat climate change and accelerate low-carbon transformation of the global cooling industry.

HKUST and TPRe Sign MoU on Research and Business Collaborations
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Taiping Reinsurance Co., Ltd. (TPRe) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 4, 2025, to jointly develop and transfer new technologies to solve problems faced by the insurance industry and to gradually establish a long-term partnership. The signing ceremony was held at the China Taiping Finance Center.
Prof. GUO Yike, HKUST Provost, and Mr. ZHAO Feng, Deputy General Manager of China Taiping Insurance Group Company Limited (China Taiping), witnessed the ceremony. Prof. ZHANG Limin, Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST, and Mr. YU Xiaodong, Chief Executive Officer of TPRe, signed the MoU on behalf of the two parties. Mr. Stephen WAI, Director of Business Development at the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Center (LSCM), and Dr. David LIU, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Stellerus Tech, also attended the ceremony.
