It was during the first wave of COVID in early 2020 when Prof. Tim WOO Kam-Tim and his HKUST Robotics Team students made the bold decision to continue with their explorations. Observing COVID restrictions and regulations, they broke into smaller sub-groups and took turns to work in the lab around the clock. When the Robocon 2020 Hong Kong Contest was finally postponed from June to September 2020, the Robotics Team members had already enjoyed a five-month head start since other teams had been dormant during the peak of the pandemic. Becoming the champion in Hong Kong and the first-runner up in Asia-Pacific at ABU Robocon Festival 2020, the HKUST Robotics Team showed their can-do team spirit once again.

With the help of HKUST’s exciting satellite remote sensing technology and data advances, School of Engineering faculty are seeking more accurate weather forecasts and greater understanding of climate change to enable more effective planning and decision-making by policymakers, companies and individuals.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced today the appointment of Prof. Lionel NI as the new Provost. Prof. Ni is expected to assume office in the second quarter of this year. The School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today (December 4, 2018) announced its plan to turn “experiential learning” courses into compulsory courses for 800 Year 1 undergraduate students in two to three years’ time. All engineering students will have to build an engineering artifact to acquire multidisciplinary knowledge that suits what society needs.

The School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is launching a new undergraduate program in Bioengineering that offers students the opportunity to conduct research in elite overseas universities, and at the same time nurtures leaders in biomedical technology and big data in support of the Hong Kong government’s focused effort to spearhead the development of these fields. Prof Ying Chau, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, said, “The Bioengineering Program takes a molecular-level perspective to tackle healthcare issues. For instance, the curriculum contains modules on biomaterials design, pharmaceutical engineering, and genome analysis.”
