Eager to play a part in helping HKUST’s local and overseas students cross cultural barriers and get to know each other better, a group of Year 3 business students launched the “Be Our Guest” dinner hosting program, an initiative which won them the President’s 1-HKUST Student Life Award. If you want to break the ice between local and overseas students and learn more about each other’s cultures, what better way to do it than by sharing food together? Better still, why not make it a truly authentic experience by hosting the meal at a student’s own home, round a big table Chinese-style?

The Human Side of Life
An inclusive student initiative is building bonds and understanding between the myriad individuals who comprise HKUST Be prepared to go beyond technology, timetables and tests if you talk with a member of “Humans of HKUST”. The project, established and driven by students, conducts far-reaching interviews with a diverse range of HKUST-ers, exploring the culture, background, and personal experiences of individuals across the University’s globalized community. Quotes, moving anecdotes, and thought-provoking views are then shared through Facebook and compiled into an annual book of stories, distributed free on campus.

HKUST Jockey Club Hall Opens to Promote Holistic Education and Eco-friendliness
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) staged an opening ceremony yesterday for HKUST Jockey Club Hall – a new residential building at Tseung Kwan O that provides 512 bed spaces for undergraduate students. The off-campus hostel was named after The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) for its generous donation of HK$33 million to help undergraduate students with the opportunity to stay in a student hostel for at least one year of their course.
