HKUST Scholar Prof. DAI Xi Wins Tan Kah Kee Science Award and Highest Honor of State Natural Science Award
Prof. DAI Xi, Dr William M W Mong Professor of Nanoscience and Chair Professor of Physics at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), received the Tan Kah Kee Science Award in Mathematics & Physics today (June 25) for his achievements in topological electronic states. This comes a day after he and his research collaborators were recognized with the State Natural Science Award (First Class) by President XI Jinping for the same groundbreaking discoveries, which have opened up new avenues of innovations in condensed matter physics and material science.

HKUST Drives Responsible AI Integration in Higher Education with APRU
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) collaborated with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) to host the Foresight Workshop on campus from June 13-14, 2024. The event attracted over 40 international academic experts, key practitioners specialising in generative AI and education, university students, and education technology start-ups. Through a meticulous and collaborative process, various future scenarios were developed to provide members of the education industry with insights into the multifaceted opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in the realm of AI integration within higher education. As a leader in embracing GenAI in higher education, HKUST will continue pioneering innovative approaches to integrate AI into higher education in the future.

HKUST and Université Paris Dauphine Forge New Bonds
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted a delegation from Université Paris Dauphine, one of the 11 member institutions of PSL, on June 14. HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. WANG Yang and Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies Prof. QU Huamin had meeting with the delegation led by Prof. Sophie MÉRITET, Vice-President for International Affairs of Université Paris Dauphine. Both institutions explored potential collaboration opportunities on strategic topics such as artificial intelligence and sustainable development, as well as student exchanges and joint research projects. The delegation then toured HKUST's state-of-the-art facilities, including the Lee Shau Kee Library. This visit paved the way for new impactful partnerships between two like-minded institutions. HKUST remains dedicated to fostering exchanges with partners in France, expanding avenues for more collaboration.

HKUST and HKUST (GZ) Launch Redbird Cross Campus Study Program
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) jointly launched the "Redbird Cross Campus Study Program" today.  The program will promote resource sharing and synergy between the two campuses under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” framework, through mechanisms including course sharing, credit transfer and student exchanges in academics, research and social activities.

Developing Young Talents: Hong Kong Students Shine at Asian Physics Olympiad 2024
Eight talented secondary school students from Hong Kong achieved excellent results at the 24th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2024) held in Malaysia from 3-10 June 2024. The Hong Kong APhO team members were Chan Hoi-chi (Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College), Edison Fu (Queen's College), Leung Chi-fung (Evangel College), Liu Lincoln (Sha Tin College) Matthew Mui (The Hong Kong Sze Yap Commercial and Industrial Association Wong Tai Shan Memorial College), Marcus Poon (Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School), Michael Tang (St. Joseph's College), and Yan King-yiu (Queen Elizabeth School). Competing among over 200 students from 27 countries or cities, the team won one gold medal (Liu), three silver medals (Leung, Fu, Yan), two bronze medals (Mui, Tang), and two honourable mentions (Chan, Poon), and was ranked 8th among all teams at the competition. The team was trained and mentored this year by Dr.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently showcased its pioneering sustainability solutions on the global stage at the 2024 Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) in Thailand from June 10-13. The event brought together 3,000 global thought leaders and innovators to address the sustainability challenges.

HKUST Forges New Bonds with Belgian Partners
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed a delegation from Ghent University, Belgium to the campus on June 7. The visiting group comprised faculty from Ghent's main campus, Global Campus in South Korea, and Ghent University East Asia Platform in Beijing. Joining the university delegation was Mr. Siegfried VERHEIJKE, Commercial and Economic Consul from the Consulate General of Belgium in Hong Kong. Together, they engaged in a fruitful exchange with HKUST's Prof. George YUAN, Faculty Representative from the School of Engineering, and Prof. Kristiaan NEYTS, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies (SKL of ADT). The meeting allowed for rich discussion of the latest developments at both universities and exploration of potential collaborations spanning student exchanges to joint research initiatives.
