HKUST Receives HK$5M Donation from Dr Hari N Harilela to Enhance Teaching & Research Excellence
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a five million dollar donation from Dr Hari N Harilela for the setting up of professorship for outstanding up-and-coming faculty. The professorship will be named in honor of Dr and Mrs Hari N Harilela. Innovative technologies and top-notch talents play a pivotal role in the growth of the Hong Kong economy. HKUST Student Team Wins Innovation Prize at Asia Innovation Forum Young Entrepreneur Award
A team of undergraduate and postgraduate students from the School of Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is among six finalists for the 1st Asia Innovation Forum (AIF) Young Entrepreneur Award and the winner of the Lenovo Innovation Award for their cleverly built underwater robots featuring ingenious designs and remarkable versatility.The AIF Young Entrepreneur Award was held in mid-October in Tokyo, Japan. 237 teams from China, Japan, Korea, Singapore and India competed in the contest, with six teams – two from HKUST – passing through the preliminary heat and semi-final to enter the final. The finalists participated in the Asia Innovation Forum and presented their business ideas to seasoned entrepreneurs, business leaders and investors in the region.

HKUST Develops Next-generation Streaming Cloud For High-quality Multimedia Broadcasting
A research team from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed a next-generation streaming cloud for large-scale high bitrate applications over the global Internet. The cloud, named Streamphony, is well acclaimed by both content and service providers and is currently being adopted by industry leader Mei Ah Digital Technology Limited and a major telecommunication company for high-quality live broadcasts planned in December this year.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and UC RUSAL invite Mr Barry Cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange and Independent Non-Executive Director of UC RUSAL, to speak at the UC RUSAL President's Forum on 2 November 2012 (Friday), during which he will explore the impacts of population growth on global consumer markets under the theme of '8.5 Billion Global Consumers by 2030: Opportunity or Looming Disaster'. Hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, the UC RUSAL President's Forum features Mr Barry Cheung delivering his insights into how global consumer trends will be affected by global population growth, with the number of global consumers expected to hit 8.5 billion by 2030. HKUST Co-hosts with Roche the Inaugural Roche Young Scientist Award (RYSA)
The School of Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Roche co-hosted the launch of the first Roche Young Scientist Award (RYSA) yesterday. Joint Presentation Ceremony for Yu Pang-lin Scholarship
Mr Yu Pang-lin, a self-made business tycoon in Hong Kong and the philanthropist who topped the Hurun Philanthropy List of China for five consecutive years, has recently set up the Yu Pang-lin Scholarship to support tertiary students of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. One hundred students from each of the following institutions, namely The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and The University of Hong Kong (HKU), will be awarded the Yu Pang-lin Scholarship.
