6 IPO students were selected from 300 applicants for the "Future Leaders in Finance" 2017 Summer Internship Program organized by the Y Society. The Kick-Off Ceremony was held successfully at the China Construction Bank at Central on 5th June 2017.

HKUST Men's Football Team Gained Valuable Experience in World Elite University Football Tournament 2017
The second World Elite University Football Tournament was taken place from 23 June to 3 July 2017 at TsinghuaUniversity, Beijing. Twelve world-class Universities from Germany, Canada, the United States, Netherlands, the UnitedKingdom, China, Hong Kong and Australia competed and mingled together during the Tournament.

HKUST Confers Honorary Fellowships on Three Distinguished Individuals
Three distinguished individuals, Prof Cheng Shiu Yuen, Ms Anita Fung and Mr John B Harrison, were conferred Honorary Fellowships by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Officiating at the ceremony were the Honorable Andrew Liao Cheung-sing, Chairman of HKUST Council and Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST.

"Smart Home Appliance" - Inter-Varsity Entrepreneurship Challenge 2017 at Shanghai
The Inter-Varsity Entrepreneurship Challenge 2017, held at Shanghai from 28 May to 4 June 2017, gathered students from Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and ShanghaiTech University (SHTECH). Students teamed up with peers from different universities were challenged to create a new smart home product/ service to solve a particular social problem in China.

Announcement President Tony Chan to Step Down from His Position in September 2018
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology announced today that President Tony Chan has submitted his resignation to Council. President Chan will step down from the position on 1 September 2018. In the interim, he will assist the Council to find a successor.
During his nine-year tenure, President Tony Chan has overseen HKUST’s growth and it is now widely regarded as one of the best universities in the world. After careful consideration, he feels now is the right time, for both the University and himself, to begin the search for a successor to lead the University into its next phase.

A Glimpse Into Future Possibilities Of Big Data And AI
The Big Data Institute (BDI) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted its inaugural Big Data and AI Day on May 26, 2017 and invited a stellar assemblage of world top academics and industry celebrities in the realm of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to share information and insights into the future of the field.
The event drew an audience of over 500 guests and students, including local and overseas academics, leaders in the Big Data and AI-related industries, government representatives, as well as students from various tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and abroad.
